Hi,

I have a few problems with the Level D 767 that I could do with some help for:

1) I have flown to many airports in the UK and the STAR seems to give me a VERY tight (sometimes 90 degress or more) turn onto finals. Is this normal?

2) The FMC turns me onto finals way to early. In real life the pros turn onto finals around 10-15 miles out and the STAR makes me turn onto finals much earlier than i would like (sometimes maybe 2-4 miles from touchdown). Can someone shed some light on the matter?

3) Due to me turning onto finals far too early I am too high above the glideslope. Is this some form of programming error on my part or is it linked to either of the above problems?

Many Thanks in advance

In real life the "pros" rarely fly according to the FMC flightplan when close to the airport. in 9/10 they go heads up with heading select and vertical speed. This is so because they are vectored by ATC.

I'd say switch the FMC autoflight modes when passing below 10.000'. Anticipate and adjust, I'm sure you're not sitting there hoping the FMC will fix everything for you?

Hi Nexus,

I am trying to get the aircraft to do a full Autoland and am trying to get it to land in very poor visibility and weather conditions.

However, I have learned that the best way to get it to do this is by turning off the STAR and flying it myself to the point of ILS interception.

Is this the way most people fly the full autoland?

I dont get it.....There are lots of times I can get the 767 to auto-land......It just wont do it at every airport.....The Catagory of the ILS procedure is the determing factor of auto-land. CAT III being auto-land?.....I.E. not all runways have auto-land capabilities?

I've shot some into San Diego with the 767 on RWY 9 and seen the Auto-land kick in.
I wish I could be of more help with this but there are times I stuggle with it in the PMDG 737 series.....

10-15 mile final?...I rarely ever hear on live atc of aircraft doing 10 mile fnals I'd say 6-7 is normal but even some go shorter than that.  Also as NEXUS said vectors are what most real world pilots experience as they get close to the airport.....

Go to liveatc.net and listen to the controllers talk with the pilots there and listen for the vectors and altitude clearences there.
