Hi all!

I do repaints for MSFS since FS2000 and now I want to expand my field in 3D design. So I downloaded g-max and studied a few tutorials. Now I want to build an aircraft(or at least try to build one).I want to ask you where I can find acurate dimensions of aircrafts.I do not mean 3 view drawings but detailed drawings of all parts in the outer fuselage(engine cowls, tyres, syspensions, wing frames, etc).
If there is not posible to find such a webpage or database can you explain me how other people build all these parts?

I know it is dificult to answer such a question but I am a beginer and do not know how to start.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Basic 3-views are useful.

There are websites (check the Resources links - many of them are still active) that offer scale drawings ...  a nice one is Wings 3d 3-Vues.  It offers a mix of high quality 3-views and 3-views "plus" - some with cross sections and details.  For example, check out the Grumman S-2 Tracker image.

I rely a lot on either web pages (google works great) and scale modelling magazines.

A good way I have found to get what I need when I can't find it in the SimV resources is to go to Google and click on "Images", then type in the name of the aircraft you're looking for.  After that, just start scanning through the available images and eventually you'll come upon a 3-view.

Works nearly every time, but it takes a little patience.

Signal Publications does some excellent books on specific aircraft, boats, tanks .. an stuff.

ie: ..can get a book on the FW-190 series ..lots of photo's and closeups of actual details along with nice drawings and dimension data.

A scanner is good Wink

for wing area and such, I beleive g-max lets you pick vertices around the wing planform and it will calculate the square feet from that.. dont forget to include the fuselage width as that counts for lifting surface available also Smiley

See, this is the kinda stuff we need around here!  I wasn't aware that the fuselage counted when factoring in lift and wing area, etc.

I'm not sure, but I've never seen any piece of Gmax that was able to calculate from the model the bits needed for the aircraft.cfg, but I have had an idea about creating a script that would write all the necessary details from an aircraft model into the aircraft config.  All you'd need to do would be to select the vertices or polys and specify what they should be, then a small prog could calculate the area or whatever.

That was the beauty of Aircraft Container Manager (ACM), since it provided a wireframe render of the model, on which you could place contact points, weights, even calculate the control surface areas ...

I think that such a utility can be easily integrated into an existing program that reads the model and allows you to change the aircraft.cfg file.

www.airwar.ru, then click 'Чертежи'
Just open all the links on the page that follows in a separate window, and find the 3-view you like.

Most russian stuff has fuselage profiles, and some have scale markings too

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

IVan - for us Russian-language-deficient folk:

Skycorner Aviation Reference is the English language version.

Click on "Drawings" and from there, one can choose to one's happiness.  For military planes, this is one of the first places I check.

If I print these files they will be in the scale seen in the file or not?How can I change the scale for example from 1/72 to 1/48 and then print?

Most of the scale plan sets indicated come with a scale bar to them.

You would have to do some calculation and manipulation in your paint program so that your printed output is in scale (as in 1"=72", or some other appropriate facrtor)
