I clearly remember going to see it with my brother-in-law & late father-in-law soon after general release in this country. Apart from having to travel a few miles to Brighton I don't recall the cinema for some reason but it's quite possible this no longer exists. Many things have changed a great deal since 1977 & some not for the better. IMHO

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
I remember seeing it (premiere week!) at the fantabulous Ziegfield Theater (fortunately still in business)... I was part of just the right demographic for it, too: just starting to get pimples, and crazy about anything to do with outer space. It was amazing: glorious Dolby II stereo (golly!); fresh print; big screen. I was in kid heaven.
Seems a little cheesy now, but you youngsters have no idea what a quantum leap it represented at the time! Didn't matter that the story was unoriginal and the script was... eh.... there had never been a sci-fi film with production values like that ever before.
