Sad

Whatever could be said about his life, he was funny.  And laughter is something we need more than ever.

R.I.P.   You were great.  Cry

His illness probably really started to affect him about the time you were born Andrew.

A very funny man, although to be fair we were robbed of his talent several years ago (Although I was unaware he'd been nominated for an Emmy award in 1995 for playing the role of an MS patient in Chicago Hope). The world will be a little less hilarious without him... Sad

Nasty thing...MS.  I heard about it.

Quote:
To be diagnosed was the hardest thing because I didn't know what they were talking about," he said. "And the doctor said `Don't worry, in three months you'll know.'

This is interesting:

Quote:
At a 1992 performance, he asked the room, "Is there a doctor in the audience?" All he got was nervous laughter. "No, I'm serious. I want to know if there's a doctor here."

A hand finally went up.

"Doctor," Pryor said, "I need to know one thing. What the (blank) is MS?"

"So I went about my business and then, one day, it jumped me. I couldn't get up. ... Your muscles trick you; they did me."

Haha... I'd forgotten that role... a bright spot in a dismal movie.

I think that was in homage to how he talked (he is mild compared to comedians today).

Like Lenny Bruce, he became notorious for the language he used onstage; and like Bruce, he was also a brilliant observer and storyteller who understood the essence of comedy.
