I think an edited cfg file was always part of the plan, otherwise we'll all see our own planes but everyone else will be grey!  To make this work, ALL players will need ALL the textures and the SAME aircraft.cfg file.

Hopefully, the tute will also include the details for removing existing aircraft registration numbers/letters, on default and add-on aircraft, and adding new registration numbers /letters of our choice instead...  Wink...!

Yep, that's the idea.  It's aimed less at careful shading and details, and more at adding racing numbers and a quick paint job.  Though I was surprised at how many of the default aircraft aren't really suitable for this - have you ever tried to paint numbers on the Jenny or the Cub?  I ended up using the Extra 300 for the examples after all!

I wouldn't have thought this would be too hard to do Tongue

One, big zip file, with all of the textures and an edited aircraft config (existing repaints can be easily added again, if anyone has them). Users must be sure not to edit the names of the folders, or any of the config entries, to ensure that everyone sees things correctly. If everyone does it correctly, there should be no fuss.

Emailing it to each individual racer (and don't forget the judges) would be extremely time consuming, compared to just uploading it once at SimV, without going through the trouble of getting everyones email address, and making sure everyone has it.

Once I get the paints, I will create the Aircraft.cfg entries and upload to simv.

I will include the ENTIRE cfg because that way no one will cheat by changing the aircrafts parameters (ie giving it 1000hp)

After saving the config file, right click on the file and go to properties. Click the "read only" box and then, apply.

That way, you wont have anyone modding the file you make.

Sorry if I am telling you something you already know. just wanted to give a heads up.

Sounds like I'd better start painting a few more Extras!

I'm not going to let this fail now, I want to see a race of different painted planes tomorrow...

I can do some tonight, is there a delay between uploading them and having the files on the site ready for downloading?

Guys, don't panic..worst case you all fly default textures for tomorrow and judges can see you by name. Keep trying though, I know you're all working really hard on this.. Grin

Ice, send me the ones you've done (email address is in my profile, plenty of room in my inbox) and I'll start throwing paint at the rest of the numbers.

Gryshnak

Edit: Don't bother, I've just repainted the Extra in 18 different colours/patterns Smiley  Hopefully I can get them converted to 32-bit and uploaded tonight, otherwise it'll be first thing in the morning.

Umm, I've just done it.  I've repainted all 19 planes, converted the textures to 32-bit, rewritten aircraft.cfg, zipped it all, and I'm uploading it now.
