Well, as many of you know I bought a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro about 2 years ago. I have been slowly working on it in the hopes of making into my ideal dream car (the '69 Camaro has always been my favorite car).
Back in May, a friend of mine found the perfect engine for the car. I have been wanting to make it into a SS396 (Super Sport) clone car with all the options I would have ordered it with had I been around in the 60s (and some modern performance parts of course). Well, now in December, I have finally saved up enough money to finally put my new motor in the car. Recently, I spent a bunch of money on parts for the motor which I need to put it in. So, here is what I bought-a lot of it is stuff to make the motor look better, but I thought I would share it.
First off, for those who haven't seen my car, I thought I would post a photo of how it currently looks. This photo was taken back in July following a car show.
Next, here is a photo of the engine as it currently sits. This is a Chevy Big Block 396 V8 motor which has been built with performance parts and puts out about 400hp and 450ft/lbs or torque. If anyone has specific spec questions about it, I can answer them. For those of you who know engines, it clearly is missing a lot of things. I have most of the neccessary bolt on parts (water pump, fuel pump, flex plate, ect...) and will being using a GM HEI Distributer and for now a Holley 600cfm carburator (I plan to upgrade to a Holley 770 Street Avenger or a Holley 750DP carb down the road). Anyway, here is the motor, it has been painted Chevy engine orange (it appears brighter in the pics than it really is because of the background).
OK, now for the new parts. Here is a photo of all the parts arranged so they can be seen. I didn't put the common parts (basically stuff from the autoparts store here), just the nice parts & performance parts. You can see in the foreground are the headers (performance exhaust manifolds) which have a ceramic coating to reduce heat.
Next are the new valve covers. You can see that the engine in the photo already has valve covers but when I saw these I fell in love with them. I probably shouldn't have spent the extra money-but oh well, they would have been much harder to put in later and I wanted them.
Here are the breathers that go on the valve covers. Again, the engine in the pic already has breathers-but I wanted ones that match the new valve covers.
The final pic shows the pulleys for the motor's belts. The upper left is for the alternator, upper right is the water pump pulley, and lower is the crankshaft pulley. I had considered going with a stock set of pulleys (which are black) but it turned out that these were not a whole not more expensive so I went with these (I think they will be a nice addition to the front of the motor).
Anyway, those are the parts for my motor. I plan on putting the motor in the car over the next few weeks so I'll be posting pics of the progress.
