It could be "chocks away" again for The Dam Busters after veteran TV interviewer Sir David Frost snapped up the rights to the second world war classic.
The cult film looks set to be remade after Sir David acquired the rights for an undisclosed sum.
He has long been a fan of the film and chose the theme tune to the classic war film as one of his favourites on Radio's Desert Island Discs last week.
Sir David bought the rights to a three-year option after the Mentorn creative director, Steve Anderson, alerted him to the sale.
"The idea came out of a conversation with Steve Anderson. I said I thought it was a great idea and said I would pursue it," he said.
"That was a couple of years ago. The situation was quite complicated but we have, just a couple of weeks ago, signed an option agreement with the Brickhill family [relation of the author, Paul]. Now we begin to see if we can make it [a remake] happen.
"With all the digital technology there is now, a new version could be even more exciting. But we can't change the music - it's so fantastically stirring."
Apparently the dog with the dodgy name either won't feature or will have to have a name change (racism and all that jazz).
So for Will and all the other Lanc lovers things are on the up.... think I might just bung the DVD on now and have a watch 8)
An upshot of this is that it'll give the warbird and veterans movements in Britain a much needed bit of publicity!
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

All due respect to Sir David but as far as I'm concerned he's wasting his time. You can't improve on a classic no matter how many technical effects you use. If this has to be done I'm relieved that it's him that has the rights to it.

If they change that what else will they change? No thanks. It simply won't be the same.

You do indeed Andrew! One of the great war movies along with The Colditz Story. Two of the truely great (and true) stories of the war, and frankly being in black and white only adds to the atmosphere of these great flicks!
Oh and of course Ice Cold in Alex whilst fiction is truely magnificent!

Agreed on that, Doug: A classic war movie cannot be beaten, however it would be good to see what Sir David can come up with.
Cheers
