how would i add an image to the tail and it
not
be mirror'd on the other side?
like this below, i've edited the Duggy repaint thats over at flightsim.com, but it never had the "D" on the tail, so using dxtbmp i've added the "D" on the tail but when i start the sim and choose the kite, the logo is mirror'd
any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Is this a repaint of the FS9 default DC-3? If it is & the texture is mirrored I don't think there's much you can do about it. I seem to recall reading that they fixed this problem with the default aircraft in FS9 but maybe I'm mistaken.

It should be easy enough to tell if it's the default aircraft. I suspect that it is & this would explain why the D was not added to the tail on the original repaint. The only alternative would be to do a complete repaint of a 3rd party DC-3 if there is one.
Note that the main texture of the default DC-3 shows only one side of the fin & rudder so I would expect anything painted on it to display reversed on the other side in the sim.

its default. I tried doing the d before, but it failed. Sadly, because ms is lazy and just mirrors the textures the D on the tail cant be done nor the Duggy on the bottom (see sig for reference)

Nemo. I haven't checked it out properly but suspect that you would need the MAAM DC-3 to do what wji is suggesting. From what I can make out this is Payware & would cost you $30. I don't know of any way to change the default DC-3 so it displays those tail textures correctly on both sides.

Well I just spent 45 minutes on google looking for a freeware FS9 DC3. Looks like you're going to have to cough up the 30 bucks for the MAAM. Sorry I couldn't help. Frankly I'm surprised that someone like Mike Stone hasn't come out with one. It's such a popular aircraft.
Good luck
