  I'm hoping maybe some of you metalheads on the other side of the globe can help me out, I know there are a lot of awesome metal bands from Europe that will probably never be heard of here in the states due to the mostly close mindedness of those who call themselves music fans.

  Anyways, I am trying to find more bands that play real dark scary doom metal, kind of like Candlemass, that is the only band I can think of that plays the music I am looking for right now, Type O Negative is another one of my favorites in this style of metal, but their subject matter isn't exactly what I'm seeking.

  Slow, low, doom metal riffs with songs of death and destruction and hopelessness, I'm not interested in any speed or death metal bands, I want gloom.

  Well, I think anyone who is metal savvy should catch the jist of what I'm looking for, and don't say anything ridiculous like dumbass "Disturbed" or any other "radio metal" band, chances are if I have heard of the bands you name then they are not underground enough to be what I'm looking for, but keep in mind that if you do know of music that might fit my description, it has to be available for me to check out, your scary gothic cousins former bands garage tapes don't count.

  Hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction, I'm having a hard time finding true doom metal that doesn't end up being just another thrash metal band.

You're a happy fella aren't you...  Grin

Sorry Paz... can't help you on the bands, but there is one obscure Belgian metalband I used to like, called Channel Zero. Not exactly Doommetal, but very energytic... They have split however... But I still like them...

Cheers,

Hi Paz...I was a Guitar player in a Doom Metal band called Serpent Rise....
Look in the web you will find many sites talking about us. In Europe our Stoled CD have a green Photo in the front.

http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/serpent_rise/

Theres two samples in the link...
The Song called Betrayer god have a lyric that I dont agree anymore thought the istrumental part I still like. The song called Kharma is still awesome for my taste.
We were the oldest band in the gender in Brasil...We have played with Anathema in the same Concert here in Brasil....
My favorit Doom Metal bandas are:
Anathema;
The first Cathedral Album - Forest Of Equilibrium;
Some my dying bride songs...
But the metal Bands that I like the most are:
Satyricon - Nemessis Divina Album and the oldests;
Immortal;
Samael...the oldests;
Amorphis;
Behemoth;

Cheers....keep up the good taste Smiley

  Finally some responses, I was beginning to think I was the only metalhead here.

  The Serpent Rise sound is exactly what I'm looking for, I tried to get the Cathedral CD from Itunes but it is unavailable at this time, I'm having the same problem with several other CD's I want to get from Itunes.

  I've been doing some other research to try and find the worlds darkest gloomiest music and came up with a few other bands you guys might want to check out if you are at all interested in the genre.

Morgion
Therion
Mourning Beloveth (my favorite new discovery)
Zaraza

  I discovered many others on a doom metal website, but trying to find cd's or downloadable music is proving to be a challenge.

They are with a new line up....but they are having some problems to find good musicans. I have played guitar in the Only Cd we have released, called Gathered by...kharma.
No mention about me in the site.....but we still friends I think.
Search in google by "Serpent Rise" + "Luiz Gusthavo" or "Serpent Rise"

We can talk about music by msn....I´ll send you my contact by private message.

Esoteric-Subconscious dissolution into the continuum, this has got to be one of the darkest, gloomiest metal recordings I have ever heard, awesome!

  I like that too, but right now I'm just trying to add more doom to my collection.

Ever heard of wednesday 13?

Strange stuff really..

A bit of deadish lyrics....

http://www.azlyrics.com/w/wednesday13.html

But not the usual screaming and heavy music but at some times a bit punkish even..

Really strange but kinda fun.....
