The Abacus EZ-Scenery just released, includes a reference to building scenery objects with FSDS3, and following a hyperlink leads you to the following:

Here's a partial list of the new features in the upgrade:

New Full FS2004 compatiblity. FSDS now uses the Microsoft MakeMDL and BGLComp tools that provide the complete FS2004 feature set.
New Export to .x file fomat. For advanced users who want to "tweak" the .x file for MakeMDL.
New Boolean operations provide powerful way to cut and split parts.
New Animation capabilities as provided by the FS2004 documentation
New Support for using specialized textures: nighttime, lightmaps, more.
New Unlimited Undo / Redo. Protects your model from inadvertent design errors. Roll back each design operation, step-by-step.
New User selectable Autosave interval. Safeguards your model from computer failure.
New FSDS compatibility. New version recognizes and handles earlier file versions.
New Aircraft Specification Sheet simplifies setup of new aircraft for Flight Simulator
Updated HELP files with tutorials for making animated scenery.

FSDS users are advised toREALLY read the SDKs and start thinking about "co-located vertices" (cure: Snap to scale) and other such headaches....

Normally, I'd say you'd have to beat me to it, but ....

It's neat.

It's like a comfortable glove just got better.

Let's be real, it's still not the powerful modelling program that gmax is, but it's got some neat features that gmax doesn't have....

The direct export to x file means, of course, you don't need "middleman".

You can also export to XML format that can be read by bglcomp, etc.

Compiling the model now lets you fill a lot of the new model's information (manufacturer, etc etc) in addition to creating the basic contact points that it's had for some time in the aircraft.cfg file.

The boolean feature is neat, since it keeps the original parts intact and creates the results for you to use or discard, as needed.

I like it.  THere are still a few (minor) bugs remaining, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.  The beta testers are in the process of wringing it through as many weird combinations they can think of.

YAY!!!!!!!

You know, I might just get excited about this. Smiley

I don't see a mention of XML parts...but I have faith that it's included.

Your faith is well founded:

Emphasis mine.

If Abacus follows past practice it will probably be a lower cost purchase for owners of previous versions.

This is a major version upgrade so a freebie is probably a little too much to ask for. Smiley

Hi all

I've never desiged anything but scenery   small time basic stuff.

I would like to try people. and to make them ai for the sim  Now just how difficult is it too do models of 3d people in fsd.

I will most certainly look forwards for the experts advice.

My many thanks, and regards to you designers.

Keep the good work coming.

the beta testers part and how they are pushing it to the extremes explains why Rick Piper's and Tim Conrad's models are getting better and better every day, hehe 8)

i think i should start saving up my pennies to buy this one, hehe hopefully i'll have a computer to install it in by the time i get it Grin

One thing about FSDS3 - the new version will NOT support previous FS versions.  HOWEVER, those buying FSDS3 "full" will also be getting FSDS2.24.  for previous version compatibility.

So far, you can move source files between FSDS 2.24 and FSDS3 so you can create something in FSDS3 then send it to FSDS2.24 to compile in CFS2, FS2002, etc. (of course, considering that you don't use xml animations)

As to FS2002 compatibility, I'll have to check but you could probably set up a separate folder with the FS2002 makemdl.exe  and compile an FS2002 model that way, with FSDS3.

Doing a bit of further research -

FSDS3 + FS2002 makemdl = an FS2002 model.

COnsider that whoever buys FSDS3 will also get FSDS2.24

The important fact is that to create a true FS2004 model we FSDS users now HAVE to look at all these gmax tutorials, xml animations, etc....
