recently one of my buddys and i have discovered online flying, he will host and i will join. its alot of fun doing the formation flying but we keep runing into thise problem with add on aircraft. the question is
How do you get add on aircraft to work online, example: i have a T-34 from corinado, when i fly it show up as whatever he is flying. are microsoft aircraft the only compatible aircraft for flying online?
thanks for the help in advance, i have tried to search for this online but i just cant find it.

Your flying partners need to have that aircraft in their aircraft folder. What a person sees on their own screen needs to be a model they have. If they don't have that plane.. then FS9 grabs a similar model.. or.. sometimes just a C172 (I haven't figured out the selection logic) and displays it. You do not both need to be flying the same, add-on plane.. you just both need to have it installed. Same goes for textures. If you reapint your C172 and your buddy doesn't have that specific texture.. it will grab an existing texture (paint job) and show it.
I hope this makes sense

Hi
DOH!! Brett was a faster typer dont ya hate that:D
You both have to have the same aircraft with the same names and repaints for them to show(not sure about repaints but if you added a repaint manually to the aircraft.cfg the names may de different).Basically fs9 check what aircraft the other player is flying and checks you sytem for it if not there it defaults to the first aircraft you where flying 9Ie the reason its a good idea to start the session with both of you flying the default cessna
hope this helps

It will show the most recently recognised plane by your sim. That's why people may switch to the default 737 first, before flying an addon of something like an A320, so it shows up to anyone who doesn't have the A320 as a 737, instead of a C172.

I always stick to using the
default
aeroplanes, and if everyone in the group did the same, then all the aircraft will show up correctly.
If one, or more, of the group suddenly changes aircraft, in flight, to an obscure model, it will appear as the default Cessna 172, which makes it pointless, especially if the intention is of taking screen-shots...!
If there are just two friends flying on-line together, then they can arrange to use non-default planes in in their hangers in advance, but with a large group all flying together it is preferable to use the default aeroplanes..

Also be careful with terrain meshes, if you've added one and either your friend hasn't or is using a different one you get weird things like it looks as if people are flying through mountains or under lakes
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

...another useful tip is to pre-arrange for everyone on the flight to select:
(1) the same Month of the year,
(2) same day of the Month,
(3) same time of day,
(4) and same weather conditions...(including visibility).... 8)...!
...makes sense if you are all flying together...?
LOL...!

Fozzer,
You and I are on the same page on that last one. It always seems weird to me when I see multiplayer screenshots from different people and the wx or the time of day is obviously WAY different.
Sometimes the real world weather accuracy from one sim to the next is pretty amazing if you are both (all ) running the same default weather system / clouds and s on. If one person has a big puffy cumulus cloud to the three oclock....... the other person does too.
And Ozzy is right about the mesh issues......... I run the FSGenesis payware mesh for a good portion of the world now and on the USA Tour hops I often see people's planes doing "weird things".
best,
.....john
