A little local news. I popped over to the airport today & picked up a free copy of the Shoreham Airport News. Found a couple of interesting titbits. First of all & despite some rumours I heard, the RAFA display looks set for at least another year. Seems they're changing the format after a number of years & I just hope it lives up to expectations.
Quote:New Dates for 2006 Air Show
The 2006 "Shoreham Battle of Britain Air show" has moved its dates to the week-end of September 16th and 17th. Due to the huge success of this years event which has received high praise from all quarters it was felt that by moving it to the original Battle of Britain weekend would gain maxi-mum support for the planned event. As a result this will be the only air show displaying that weekend and the RAF Participation Committee has promised to support next year's show fully. Already plans are in progress to re-vamp the display and include more new features both in the air and on the ground.
"By doing this we will have the best on the UK and European display circuit at our disposal "said Don Bean MBE, Air show Organiser. One possible highlight being looked at is a ground attack scenario involving all three services. Discussions are also under way with several dis-play pilots and teams to link up and do something that littlebit different. With the
backdrop of Lancing College and the Downs we have an ideal setting. The Shoreham Airport event has always been on the same weekend but with so many organisers moving their dates around to our planned one it has given us a chance to support the display pilots who over the years have supported us.
"This will give them a venue that they like and enjoy without the worry of having to fly around the country trying to please so many organisers on the same day!" said John Periam, Press Officer. The organisers cannot run this established event without the support of the media and we would like to take the oppor-tunity of saying thank you for the high level of coverage you gave us in 2005 which helped us achieve records both in fund raising for RAFA and attendance.
This photo is on the front page. The old terminal building looks a treat but it's masquerading as Le Bourget on the other side of the Channel. Not sure I'm supposed to post it here without permission but I'll take that chance. You can download the whole thing free of charge here anyway so I don't think anyone will object.

Quote:This is Shoreham Airport as you have never seen it before and you will probably never see it like this again. The Airport was being used as a location shoot for the production of a major film, to be released in May 2006. Due to reporting restrictions by the Production Company we are unable to give further information but will keep you informed as the release date approaches.
The only other time that the Terminal Building has been trans-formed, was in July of 1999 when it represented what it may have looked like in the 1930's whilst shooting scenes for a Poirot film, Lord Edgware Dies.
Finally, this is from a previous issue. The shot of the Century I missed when the two Harriers came screaming through on their farewell on leaving after this year's show.
It was taken from the roof of the terminal building where I'm not allowed - although in hindsight I reckon I could have talked my way up there. They came over the the hangar verrry low indeed & caught me by surprise. Almost knocked poor old Hagar off the steps (on the right of the terminal in the above photo).

Wonderful stuff.
