Hi there,
We (some friends and me) have a permanent Teamspeak
Server running at
ts.netfrag.org
Feel free to use it for your Multiplayer Sessions
on channel "flight deck" !!
The server is usually quite fast but from time to time
it might be offline for updates. (Our admin is still testing various things).
You can download the client here
http://www.goteamspeak.com/downloads.php
and this is a basic description how to use the client
http://www.goteamspeak.com/help.php?t=ts2tutorial
Please use headphones ! Speakers tend to generate feedback wich makes communications difficult.
If you are new to teamspeak please make a self test
in the Teamspeak Client and adjust the voice activation
level if neccessary. (Settings/Sound Input Output/
test codec: speex 25.9). Needs to be decreased when
your words are cut or some are not coming through.
It needs to be increased if your green controll Icon
shows that you´re sending all the time (than other players probabely will hear you breath all the time)
If your voice is to low
adjust the microphone level and
activate the "microphone boost" option in the windows mixer.
These options are a little hidden and hopefully I can point you into the right
direction cause my windows is german (translation
might differ a little)
Bring up your
audio mixer by double clicking on your speaker symbol
in the lower right corner.
This brings up the panel for Playback only !! In this
panel the microphone should be set to "sound off"
otherwise you would hear yourself through the mic.
Bring up menu Options/Properties and choose from the
three options "adjust volume for.." the checkbox "recording" and hit OK.
This brings up the recording panel.
Here you will find another volume control for the microphone that controlls the level you are sending to
others. You can use it during the selftest in the TS Client
to properly adjust your output. If you are still not loud enough open the menu "options" again and activate
"advanced options". Now you will see a new button below
the microphone controls "Advanced". When clicked
another window pops up where you can activate the
option "microphone boost".
As a general rule your voice should be about as loud
in the selftest as the female TS Computer voice that
sounds when you connect.
I hope this doesn´t scare anyone to connect.
It´s not that hard as it may sound
and you usually need to change these settings only
when connecting for the first time.
It´s just to ensure an understandable communication
for everyone !!
If there is something that does not work for you just contact me here or connect to the server and we will
see if we can work it out (you can send text messages
in teamspeak as well)
Hopefully I will have some more time in the near future
to join your multiplayer sessions.. and maybe we can have a little chat on this server.
Have fun !
cheers...
sam

Thanks for the server, I'll try it soon enough. It's nice to see that SimV can finally have its own private flying domain rather than share one at WS.

The ip adress is 85.10.201.84
You can also try papaya.netfrag.org
that points to the same server.
Sometimes you may need several attempts to connect.
I´m not shure if you need to open the port TS uses if you
have a firewall or router. It´s 8767 .
Actually I don´t have it forwarded on my router and it works.
But it might be a reason.
Hope it works !

Perhaps we could use this as our "Tower" for the airshow on saturday, we merely announce the name of our aircraft before asking requests to land and take-off or fly-past.

sorry for the inconvenience ! You´re unbanned now.
Rabit banned you a bit to hasty because of the following reason.
Sometimes kiddies join our server and find it extremly funny
to produce enormous feedbacks to bother the users (ears).
Yesterday we had some of these kiddies on our server again.
And you must have been quite loud when you joined.
He didn´t recognize you as a flightsimmer, thought you were one of them.. and banned you.
Please check your voice quality before joining with the Teamspeak selftest as described above.
To prevent such accidents in the future I will register you
(all the flighsimmers) to the server when I see you around
(You must be connected for this). Than other admins will recognize you as a registered server user.
I hope this will not detain anyone from joining. Every
flightsimmer who wants to use our server is still very welcome.. but please take some time to configure your teamspeak !
cheers
ps. will make a sticky "Airshow" Channel tonight !!

In the 'Music and Entertainment' section I've seen some of what you hear, and I'd rather not have to hear that during the show...!!
Just kidding Theis!!
Anyway, if you do go ahead, try to keep the 'System of a Down' to an absolute minimum!!

I added a low Bandwith channel to the Server.
If there is someone in your session who is not connected
with DSL he might come through broken. In his case
you can use the new channel. It´s just called "Low Bandwith"

You should only hear yourself when you do a self test
in the options menue. When the light gets green everything should be ok. But always make a selftest like described
in this thread to check that you are comming through clear.

Will all this "Teamspeak" malarkey destroy the last minute excitement of typing in the chat window at the same time as trying to line up with the runway and perform a perfect greaser at the same time...?

I've just tried setting up Teamspeak this morning with my Mike/Headphone set....
..bleedin' Norah...!
A free headache...
...!
What with ATC bending my ear, my own call outs, and the constant engine/wind noise in my headset, I finally had to take the headset off, and re-plug my Creative speakers back in again (With it's volume control)....
...!
Hells-Bells, what a racket...!!!
At least with a proper noise cancelling headset on, in a REAL aircraft, all the background noise is cancelled, and its quiet until I actually make a call-out.
I'm now going to try just using my mike for call-outs, and my Creative speakers (with volume control) to relay all the ATC and cockpit sounds...
...!
An alternative would be to simulate a noise-cancelling headset by reducing all the sounds (in FS 2004 Options>Settings>Sound) except the ATC/Teamspeak calls to and fro... ?
Until I have more luck in reducing my consumption of headache pills, I think I will continue using the lovely-old Chat Window...
...
...!
...sorry Lads...
...!
Cheers all...!
Paul...I love peace and quiet... 8)...!

Are you sure the volume isn't turned right up in Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control?
Could be why it's so loud!

The huge problem with teamspeak is that there is a delay of about 2 seconds between speaking and for other people in hearing. If lots of folk are using the same room it can be chaotic if they all want to talk.

Especially if most users are on Dial up and are using speakers instead of headsets [which results in feedback].

Mr. Fosley
We will exclusively grant you the right
to use your PC Speakers on our TS Server. But please don´t make them to load
@Saitek: I think the Teamspeak latency is acceptable...
it´s not worse than with any other voice chat software.
If there are people with 56k connections, you can
use the "Low Bandwith" Channel on the Server.
If there are more than 5 users online it requires
a little discipline from everyone or it ends in an acoustic
porridge
cheers,
sam

I still can't seem to connect. I've opened port 8767, connected using ts.netfrag.org, and 85.10.201.84. But, they both say failed to connect to server.

It looks like it. I connected immediately when I tried TS2.
