I just downloaded the FSGenesis 4/5/6 LOD mesh for the entire world.  It is intended as "background" mesh for the scenery in the distance.  Big downolad.... 400 or 600 Meg or something like that......so if you don't have fast broadband.... get the CD option.

It made a HUGE difference in the rendering of scenery as I fly.  Much smoother and I don't get the littel "blips" of way distant scenery kinda' "popping" into existance.

I have a year long membership set up with them.... so downloading extra stuff is pretty inexpensive.  This was done sort of "on a lark"..... and it paid off well.

Just a bit of a "tip" for ya'll.  Your mileage may vary.

best,

Hey im thinking of getting this,

Does it improve the scenery altogether, or does it just improve the "background" Effects. Etc.
Is it high noticeably? I have noticed some stuff on the website such as "153m (LOD8) SRTM ". Are they Remade textures or same as the mesh.
LOL i have no clue how it all works.
If it seems good, i think i will order it today. How much out of 10 would you rate it?  ?/10

I mainly fly around Europe, whats your experience with that been like?

Sorry about all the questions LOL Grin

Many thanks for the information John,

and most importantly,

Happy Flying!

Jimbo,

This will NOT imoprove the detail of the terrrain NEAR your plane at ALL.  If you want the most dramatic effects... you need to buy and download the highest resolution mesh FSGenesis sells.  Thats is the FIRST step.  If you ALREADY have the high resolution mesh in place............. then the LOD 4/5/6 stuff makes a diffence in the BACKGROUND.......the stuff FAR away.  The high rez mesh does NOT do that.... and you are using the default Microsoft stuff outside a certain "range" from the aircraft.

I already have the highest rez mesh from FSGenesis installed for just about the whole world.

Just wanted to make that clear.

As to rating the high rez stuff.......... it is basically an 11 out of 10  Wink on what it does for you.  Particularly the places like the Tetons and the Grand Canyon and Hawaii and Monumant Valley.

Ahh understand you now.

Cheers John, may have to invest in downloading the High Res. stuff first then, looks pretty cool.

Jimbo,

Check out an annual membership before you buy a single item.  Figure out if you are liekly to buy a lot.  It makes this relatively reasonable.  You still get the volume discount along WITH the member prioce on stuff....... my average mesh download costs about $2.50 now after the intial membership of ....I think $40.
