Can't say I really have a favourite.
But as of recent, Dane Cook has been peaking my interest.

Tommy Cooper, Andy and Lou (Little Britain), Tony Blair.....

I agree about Eddie Izzard - excellent comedian. I live in his home town, you know - Bexhill on sea. He's in the line-up to open our re-vamped De La Warr Pavilion in a couple of weeks.

The US state of Delaware and the river that runs through Philadelphia were named after the Earl De La Warr.

Tommy Cooper, Norman Wisdom, both Ronnies (particularly where pismronuciation is involved), Peter Sellers, hence the Goons (particularly the Ying Tong song...)

The list goes on. The sad thing is most of them are dead.
Modern comedians may make me chuckle, but they aren't the same...

Ricky Gervais. He's one of them "love him or hate him" types. But then again, so are most comedians. You either find them funny or you don't! The way to make a joke funny is to say it in the right way, which he tends to do perfectly, whether it be body language, or tone of voice.

And I quite like Jimmy Carr and Peter Kay too. The Jimmy Carr DVD is good Smiley

Anyway, others include Ross Noble, "Release the Tramps!"
Bill Bailey, "I'm currently eating scrambled eggs, with a comb, from a shoe!"
And Dylan Moran. "A WHAT? YOU KNOW I DON'T LIKE YOU SEEING OTHER PEOPLE! WHO IS THIS INSANE BLIND TART!?!"

Having been brought up on the Goon Show I have a well-honed sense of the ridiculous. I often find people looking at me strangely & wondering what the heck I'm giggling at. They have no chance of getting the joke. I would have to say that dear old Spike Milligan was my favourite comedian but there are many others like him. The late Ronnie Barker was a comedy actor & scriptwriter rather than stand-up comic but I think he was among the most talented & consistently amusing people of the 20th Century. Like many of their contemporaries who are unfortunately no longer with us they were a credit to their profession & cannot possibly be replaced.

Dave Chapelle never seems to fail.  His Charlie Murphy skit was an instant classic.

My favorite radio show is the Preston & Steve show, which has formed an almost fanatical following on the east coast.  It is absolutely hilarious, without fail, every single day.

Also a diehard South Park fan. 8)

I have
Dress to Kill,
Glorious,
Circle,
Unrepeatable
and Definite Article on VHS. And Sexie on DVD. And I went and saw Sexie live aswell.

The only one I don't have is Live at the Ambassadors. Which is a pity cause it's quite a good one. Problem is it's just a bastard to find.

I wish I could say what I think should be done to Jimmy Carr. But this is a family forum.

Lets just say that a lifetime of hosting "100 greatest" programs on Channel 4 is not nearly punishment enough.

I've got the Jimmy Carr live DVD (if there is only one), and I'll disagree with woodlouse. He is funny!

But then again, you must have a sense of humour...just refer to your avatar!

My number 1 fave comedian ...... "The Big Yin" Billy Connerly who is closely followed by Emo Philips.

I've seen both live in Glasgow and came out of both shows hurting.

Billy did 2.5 hours straight and then after a short interval gave us a bonus of an hour with his old band The Humblebums. Mad comedy and great folk music.

Nothing more to say really ......... he's just mad ...... but very very accurate in his observations.
Billy feeds off the audience more than most comedians I've seen live and therefore things are extremly fluid. He'll be distracted and only come back to the original thread ages later.
The ultimate in off the wall observational comedy.
