I know one that you couldn't. The fact that I couldn't either has nothing to do with it. Tongue Cheesy

Amazing piece of detective work Craig. I'm impressed. Wink

PS. This makes you even more of an anorak than me. Roll Eyes

I'm not quite sure which one you mean but that might not have been so difficult or clever as it appeared. Without spoiling all our little secrets, we had seen the aircraft taxy past to the other end of the runway which was out of sight from where we were standing.  When we heard it start its take-off run it would be quite obvious what it was before anyone could see it. Cheesy

Most of the aircraft at Old Warden have a very distinctive engine note so it's easy enough for a regular visitor like Charlie or me to recognise them.

What actually happened was that the SE.5a took off before the Bristol Fighter. There is a very considerable difference between these two aircraft & it's almost impossible to confuse them, one being a small single-seater & the other a much larger machine with a gunner's position behind the pilot. Our friend Mr. Spake was obviously reading from a script & enthusing about the Brisfit that had just taken off & was being displayed right in front of him while it was actually still on the ground. In fact I think it was me that first pointed this out & this sums up my opinion of using celebrities as air show commentators. Roll Eyes

PS. It might have been the other way round but I'm sure you see my point.
