What freakin' luck: stopped at home briefly to pick up my laptop for use on a jobsite, and mentioned to roomie Maz, who's something of a no-budget PC hardware hacker, that I'd gleaned the overhead projector and was looking for an LCD. He ducks into his room and pulls out this:

...

An old Toshiba laptop he pulled out of the trash. HD is dead, but the LCD works fine. Cost to me: NOTHING. That's the kind of price I like. Doing pretty well, budget-wise,  on this project so far... Grin  Now I can afford plenty of spare lamps, and a good fan or two to keep the heat off the LCD... hooray!!
Guess I'll be up late farting around with this!!

That is precisely where i got the idea... but thanks for the heads-up.
Some bad news: just found out the LCD in this pup will only support 800x600... eh. But what the hell- it's free, and it'll do for prototype purposes until I find a cheap 1024x768-capable panel.
