OK some weirdo from the local authority came up with the fantastic plan to ban anything with diesel engines from the city...
that means: no busses, no resupply for the shops, no private car for himself (as 70% of the cars that are leased are diesels)
That guy deserves a drive-by of a herd of old diesel landrovers and oldtimer trucks

No, it is a good decision.
Kerosene is one of the worst fuels ever. Dirty, and dangerous. The only benifit is gas milage. Diesil and Jet fuel are horrible when it comes to leaving residual exaust

Only thing is that it isnt legally possible to ban a european certified vehicle.
And even when they find a way to get around that rule, which criteria would you choose:
Weight... bugger, no BMW 7 series too
Length... same as above, and real 4x4s are shorter. Furthermore, the real irritating one is a truck license anyway
The fact that it has AWD... ok, how about my Fiat Panda 4x4
The fact that it uses diesel... ok how about busses and delivery tucks?
The whole 'fine dust' hype is based on a sattelite measurement, which in itself isnt bad, but doesnt take the weather influence in account. the usual low pressure over holland sucks in all the crap from the Ruhrgebiet industrial area
And just in case... Defnder 110 with heavy rear axle can take over 3500kg max, so a B type license (truck) is a possibility

Fine dust is way too overhyped.

They claim that people live 6 months longer....
That is 6 months more AOW (that's what you recieve when you are ove 65) x number of inhabitants of amsterdam = more money than all the BPM (car sale tax) that they lose when this really goes through

Banning small diesel engines (under 3 litres) in cities makes sense as 70-80% of the particulates in the air, caused by diesels, are from the small under serviced and irregularly tested engines in cars and small vans.
Trucks and buses have to be serviced and tested every 6 months here in the EU, therefore they are better maintained and particulates are kept to a minimum.

Well....I remember a case when the City in Nijmegen tried that too....Then they went to the place where the responsible Politician lived and Voila A Diesel powered 4x4..Gone Credibility!
If they really want to lower the exhaust fume polution they should try to get the traffic moving instead of standing in Traffic Jams! They did study once and concluded that the average traveling time was increased by several minutes per daybecause of trafic Jams.. Now that doesn't seem much but a few mins per day Times over 200+days of working time several hundreds of thousands Cars is.....quite a lot

Souchiro, a couple of minutes is nothing. You should try sitting on the M25 like some have to every morning for 30 minutes and upto a couple of hours. The M6 here in Birmingham is no better and some mornings doesn't move at all. And thats before getting into the city centre

I know! IT must have been more..But Imagine all those minutes of car-engines turning to be saved! Decrease in polution instantly! I don't see how perfgectly Legal 4x4 should be banned...and I can't go to deep int it because that would make it to political....

Even if that would happen, most of the larger ones can go on truck license (Land Rover 130 single and dual cab, any 110 with 'heavy' rear axle) which is a nice loophole (and allows packing it to around 4000kg total weight)
