Hello,

Short of ripping the thing out and torching it does anyone know of a way I can improve the performance of my crap Nvidia GeForce 6200? Are there any inexpensive ways of tweaking it??? Cheers Sad

Some of us are currently running internal chipsets whilst awaiting the arrival of their video cards, so consider yourself lucky...  8)

The 6200 is the lowest end gpu of the GF6 series. You wont get much more outof it without softmod/overclocking Embarrassed

You can overclock it for free (worth a few FPS), or you can burn it for a few minutes of stupendous satisfaction, (recommended) just after you buy a decent card.

In other words, the card is not of gaming caliber. Consider and research carefully before making another purchase. If it costs under $150, it typically will not make you happy.

Well the 6600GT is probably under 150$ and it will make him happy but I would do some waiting/reserch to see if they make an "7700GT" now of course if you want to run Windows Vista on the card you purchase next 256 graphic memory is the recomended size.

Cheers guys,  Grin

I think I will save up as much as poss n get the best i can so i dont have to upgrade again for a while. I have had people telling me about their cards n i aint got a clue whats best - some say Nvidia, some Radeon. I have seen the ATI Radeon X800 but then again the Nvidia 7800GTX looks kinda cool. Any ideas???

I'm confused, ripping the thing out and torching it, will not help matters in the performance department!!!  Shocked ??? Roll Eyes Tongue Kiss

Also, I'd agree, 7800GTX is indeed a cool card, but, its also an expensive one!!!

As for interim performance, I'd try some of the later drivers from www.nzone.com also, some reading of  Tweakguides.com's Nvidia Forceware optimization guide http://www.tweakguides.com/NVFORCE_1.html will reap rewards.

GeForce 6200's Rubbish? Yes, by high end cards standards, however, with a little tweaking, its upto the job of FS9 albeit without much eye candy.

If it were my money, a 7800GT ( Under £240 at my local pc store... ! ) would be my choice, the GTX is expensive overkill imo, not to mention seriously cpu limited - You need a very fast & expensive cpu to get the best from it.  Wink

Hey, its your money though.  Cheesy

The 6200 series is simply meant for adding some dx9 functionality to a computer for certain apps and for windows vista. It has no gaming value at all.

I recommend a 6600gt if your on a  budget. If not, either a 7800 GT or GTX is very very good.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I seem to have had some luck with the drivers finally. After trying to reinstall them (unsuccessfully) a few times in the past things seem to have gone ok this time and i can see some major improvements. Before the whole comp crashed whenever I hit F9 for a movie while running Fraps n FS9 together but this seems to have stopped now. I have now been able to post some shots in the Freeware forum now so thats cool.

Thanks again
