Two airline mechanics were working on a 747 when lunchtime came. Rather than leave what they were doing, they just took their lunch break while sitting in the cockpit. While they were eating lunch, one mechanic bet the other that the landing gear would not retract if he pulled the gear lever up.
He lost the bet.

Can that really happen? I am really curious because I am in the Tupolev 334 prototype (cn 02 - RA94001)pretty often and I always have a big temtation to pull that gear lever down
What would happen?

Not read it before and so have lots of others. Andrew has been here years (actually one of the originals)- so most people may not have seen it if it was posted ages ago.

If the squat switches are working, nothing will happen.
The problem is, if the squat switches are working.
Some lesser designs (Cessna) can have the gear try to come up on the ground, and a few other aircraft. The 747 would not however.

I am going to Zhukovsky tomorrow
I am not working to OKB Tupolev so technically, I can't be fired, but, if I wreck their new plane I am pretty sure that I will never go near a Tupolev again
)
I just know the person responsible for the aircraft (01) (nice guy - he worked on the Tu144LL project too) and he lets me come watch when they do static testing or servicing. I am now trying to convince him to allow me to be onboard during a "short positioning flight" in exchange for giving the plane a wash - the prob is that the aircraft is not insured for passengers so, to get me onboard he has to make me a "temorary employee" of OKB Tupolev.
But I will ask him tomorrow about the landing gear
this post really got me thinking...
