As I'm still experimenting problems when playing CFS1 on Windows XP Professional and home editions (for instance the impossibility of flying missions or using the no-CD file {I have the original though but I prefer to keep it safe aside}), I was considering formatting my older PC and re-installing it with Windows 98 SE in the order to be able to play older flightsims such as CFS1, FS98 and their add-ons or Rowan' Flying Corps and Mig Alley. I was recently told I should try installing Windows XP Pro Titanium Edition, that this software would allow the installation and the use of all those beautiful old W95 and W98 simulator programs. I just wondered if anybody could give me more more information about this possibility? Thank you in advance!  Smiley

Thats a BS edition of XP, probably a pirated edition with a couple extra apps.

Microsoft only sells 5 versians of XP currently:
XP Pro SP2
XP Pro x64*
XP home SP2
XP MCE 2005 (Media Center Edition)*
XP SE (Starter Edition)*

*OEM only, meaning must be bought with computer, not sold seperately.

Hi PJ...!

I have 2 hard drives.
The main one (C drive) contains Windows XP Pro and all my normal programs.
The second hard drive contains Windows '98SE to play all my zillions of super-dooper "old" games, including DOS games.
It works a treat... Grin...!
I find that Win XP "Compatibility Mode" very rarely works with old games...if ever... Wink...!
I select the preferred hard drive during boot-up, (Delete key).
That way I have the benefit of using my fast processor and latest graphics card*, all on one machine

So Foz recommends that you stick good-old Win '98SE on your spare hard drive on your fast machine...and play Quake, Doom, Gloom, Duke Nukem 3D, etc, to your hearts content... Grin...!
...happy days...!
LOL...!

Paul.... 8)...!

* unfortunately, some very old games will only run on 3DFX Voodoo cards using Open GL... Cry...!

For DOS games on XP use 'Dosbox'. Gives full SB16 through directx and decent framerates too

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

Fozzer, I may try that trick!  Been wanting to play Final Fantasy 7 for SO long, but it crashes when WinXP tries to run it.  Same with a few other classics.

All I gotta do is find an extra HD and a copy of Win98...

...
AMD Athlon X2 4200+ dual-core- 2.2ghz per core
MSI GeForce 9400 GT- 550mhz core, 512mb VRAM

Windows 7 Home Premium, DirectX 11, Realtek HD w/ Logitech X530 speaker set, Logitech G110 keyboard

Thanks a lot for the info. Sticking to good old Win 98 SE on a second harddrive seems to be the best and wiser solution. I'll have a look on 'Dsbox' anyway but I just wondered if trying XP "Titanium" on top of my legal XP Home Edition would be too harardous.

By the way Fozzer, I think I must have been a couple of times to Hereford when I was working as a conductor on the "Midland Red" busses in Worcester during my summer hollidays in 1965. It was a very long time ago. I wonder if the 'Midland Red" still exists and I miss the good old English pubs with a nice pint of brown and mild.

Greetings,  Smiley

Have you tried right clicking the program's launch executable file...... ie. "the_software.exe" ,  going to it's properties and running it in compatibility mode?

This works a real treat with a lot of older software. I got the nocd patch for Crimson Skies to work like that.

There is no such thing as XP titanium unles its some windows add-on not made by MS. And chances are, it probably won't help due to the fact that it won't change how XP runs as opposed to win98.
