While we all know that F rules.......

Isn't it about time that the A vs B question is seen as a political subject which is rightfully banned?

i believe boeing is more efficient as a manufacturer...
they can build a whole 747's inside their factory while airbus has to lug their A380's huge pre-manufactured parts all over europe...

i dare not say which is better, i just think boeing has a more practical approach

(but i do think boeings look better Grin)

to give the impression of thye huge jump forward with the plane. Plus the A350 will be smaller so lower number.

Being a double-decker aeroplane I think the "8" is the giveaway...

That would be because Airbus is effectively a consortium of large European aircraft constructors. If they wanted to I'm sure they could manufacture a single manufacturing facility in France, but they have the skilled work forces at the individual factories, and it obviously makes more economic sense for them to keep manufacturing the way it is with well established factories.

I would imagine primarily for market perception.  Airbus has arrived as the premier manufacture because they have the biggest and the baddest!  I'm not trivializing this, market perception matters.  However, only time will tell if the A380 would be a good strategic move or not.  Airbus went for bigger and farther where Boeing went for effeciency with the 777.

I'm sure both manufactures build good planes.  Just which is more able to anticipate the need and deliver aircraft that will meet that anticipated need into the next decade and beyond.

I remember living in Los Angeles near the aviation industry manufactures near LAX, I remember Northrop building skins for the 747, putting them on railroad cars and shipping them to Seattle for assembly.  This went on for many years.

Still happening now only further afield. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/business/148285_boeingjapan14.html Aircraft manufacture is a global business these days. Quote:
Taking a bold new step toward the development of its next new jetliner, The Boeing Co. will award the critical 7E7 wing work to Japanese industry.

The move is unprecedented for Boeing and represents one of its most important airplane manufacturing decisions ever. The aerospace giant has never before allowed a supplier or partner to take the lead in manufacturing the wings of its jetliners.

Boeing commercial executives will announce next week who will build what large structures of the 7E7, with the Japanese getting most of the wings, sources confirmed.

Japanese industry also will build some of the 7E7 fuselage.

Airbus just do it with whole sections of aeroplane... I bet they're wishing the Beluga was big enough for the A380's wings though! Grin
