Captain Sim is pleased to announce that the successive beta testing stage of the 'Legendary Herk' expansion for MSFS 2004 is over. Highly professional Beta team reports the C-130 overall impression is VERY positive, some of them call it 'awesome piece of art!' – ‘the Visual Model is fantastic and the level of systems detail when completed will be unparalleled, texturing appears superb, the flight model is very realistic - the airplane is very nice to fly and easy to handle with no bad habits’.

However there are several issues that still need fixing. We keep doing our best to polish everything up and release Beta 2 version as soon as possible. Obviously, the final release will be out in a certain period of time.

But the point is, many of the Beta issues are already addressed, the other issues are cosmetic and not critical for average customer.

So currently we have two options:

1. To continue scheduled development and testing in closed Beta sessions
OR
2. To release next version of the C-130 as a 'Technical Release' available to general public at the full price.

First of all, we would like to know your opinion, please take a part in the following poll:

- Yes, I'd buy the technical release copy.

- No, I'd wait for the final release product.

Thanks for your input .

The current results of the poll are available realtime 24/7 at: http://www.captainsim.com/cgi-bin/questionnaire.pl?id=5;action=results

The main point of the poll is to hear the community opinion. So, please do not consider the poll as a sign of approaching Technical Release. Captain Sim's default option is #1 (To continue scheduled development and testing in closed Beta sessions).  And we'll switch for option #2 only if more than 80% of the poll respondents vote for that.

An interesting one this. I can understand the reason for wanting to defualt to option one, but also, if a product is good enough not to have any glaring faults then an initial release followed by a patch would be entirely acceptable (remembering that 95% of end users will have probably only ever been as close a 20 metres or so from a real C-130 at airshows etc, and never flown in one, which may be the only disadvantage of having such an experienced (real) C-130 based Beta team*). Quite often, unless faults are glaringly obvious I don't really notice the difference between patch and unpatched versions of some products (except obvious examples, such as JF's Spitfire package)

*admittedly I've only seen the abridged list on the CS website...

This is exactly the main purpose of the poll - to know what the majority of people is thinking about the matter.

Well, my personal choice would be to wait for the entire package to be released. I am patient and don't mind waiting for a little while...as I know I will be rewarded with something superb Smiley Smiley
