Bristol Mercury engine sounds (Read 342 times)

I've downloaded the lovely Lysander model for FS2004 (I think it's a converted CFS2 model), but it doesn't come with any sound.
The readme suggests using the Wildcat or Hellcat sounds from CFS2 (neither of which I have, no CFS2 here). Having searched around for other Bristol Mercury engined aircraft, the only other single-engined ones are the Gloster Gladiator and the Miles Master.
The only Gladiator I could find was for CFS2, and the sound config was pointing to the sounds for the Zero!
Couldn't find a Miles Master anywhere... on a side note, anyone like to make one sometime?
[Edit: found two Miles Masters on flightsim.com - thanks to Ted Cook for those! - just that one uses Spitfire sound, and the other is the later version with the P&W engine]
So my request is simple(!)... anyone got a Mercury sound, or any good suggestions on what might be a good substitute (bearing in mind we're talking about a 9 cylinder radial engine here).
Thanks

Kaid, welcome to SimV,
I was about to suggest Ted Cook's Masters, but you've found them!
As for Bristol Mercury sounds, I can't say I've ever come across any, but I would be nice if there were some - and a lovely Gladiator to go with them! Or a Blenheim...

You could do worse than alias the sound to the FS9 default Lockeed Vega. That's powered by a 9 cylinder Pratt & Whitney Wasp.

Thanks both
Currently have the sounds aliased to the P&W powered Master, which is pretty good.
Hagar, I haven't flown the Vega yet, will have a go later and see how I like the sound - thanks for the suggestion.
Charlie, I agree... I've been looking for a good Gladiator as well. And now you've got me looking for a Blenheim too...
Perhaps I need to learn how to make aircraft; been years since I did any 3D modelling. Plus, the R.A.F. museum is just down the road from me, I wonder how receptive they would be to the idea of someone crawling all over their Gladiator with a camera...
Once again, thanks for the help

I'm sure they wouldn't mind too much - or even better, I'm sure both Hagar and I could recommend a trip up the A1 to Old Warden to see their airworthy Gladiator (and Lysander of course)...

The Lysander is one of my favourites! A vastly neglected aircraft in my opinion.
Everyone wants to fly the Spitfire (and Hurricane to a lesser extent) and Lancaster, I guess there's something "romantic" and "glamorous" about them, the "planes that won the war" (supposedly... and I'm guilty of succumbing to that romantic image as well at times).
[OK, if you're American, replace Spitfire with P51 and replace Lancaster with B17!]
I do think the general public is in danger of forgetting the important work done by the lesser-known aircraft, like the Lysander, Wellington, Gladiator, to name but a few. I've been so encouraged to see so many of these aircraft represented as downloads on this site (and others).
I do wonder if there ought to be a "Battle of Europe" flight to accompany the "Battle of Britain" team... how about a Lysander, a Mosquito (I think there's still one airworthy!) and Wellington? Or a Halifax, or a Stirling (I believe there's a fund to get one airworthy).
I've been thinking about doing some scenery for the Tempsford and Stradishall bases where 138 and 161 squadrons (special operations, Lizzies) flew from, just at the initial research stage at the moment though. I've been thinking of maybe doing them as shareware with the proceeds going to the museum at Hendon if I ever get that far... I still can't believe they maintain all those aircraft and don't charge entry!
I digress though...
There's a Lizzie and a Gladiator at Hendon, no idea if the Lizzie is airworthy though (I know the Gladiator isn't). I think a trip up to Old Warden is definitely on the cards for me, when I can find the time!
Once again, thanks for the help (and the warm welcome to the forums)

Sounds like a plan. It'd be nice to see some old airfields reappearing in FS...
