Okay the MkI was fitted with a ring and bead sight originally, this was shortly replaced by the electrical gunsight.
The MkII onwards was fitted with an early electrical sight (forerunner to the modern HUD), from the late MkIX they were fitted with the later model gyroscopic sight.
A couple of good snaps of a MkI (oddly with the armoured glass fitted inside the cockpit rather than bolted on outside...) and the early electrical sight (which is the one you're talking about whereby it projects an orange or blue crosshair onto the screen in front of the pilot) can be seen at the RAF site
http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/spitfire.htmlReach For The Sky is horribly inaccurate in places such as the models of Spitfire used in the timeframe of WWII. Good film though, I've got it on DVD
Battle of Britain tends to be a bit more accurate with its aircraft (except the 109s which are Merlin engined Spanish jobbies...), and yes I've got it on DVD as well
For a good couple of close-up shots of just the sight head over to our own funhouse (aka Daves) Spitfire Simpit site, you'll find some nice snaps on this page
