US Tour General Information!
Hello all, as we continue this round the US tour, I thought that it would be a good idea to start a general thread pertaining to no particular flight. This way, I can cover the basics of what we do and how we are going to do it each flight without having to repeat in each weekly posting.
Who are we?
We are a group of fellow Simviators who have joined together to fly around the United States primarily in smaller prop planes. Our ultimate goal is to get to each and every state in the country with the exception of Alaska and Hawaiim though they may appear in the future...
One of the nice things is we do not require people to attend every session or make up the flight, so please feel free to join us any weekend..
What do we fly?
Mainly it depends on the distance of the next flight for the night. We have used the stock 172SP for some, and the fastest was the king-air for the one flight. Basically what happens is I'll try and match the hop and the aircraft so that we fly for more than an hour and less than two hours.
When do we fly?
We attempt to fly every saturday night between 9pm to 11pm Eastern Standard time. I'm aware that this may not be a good time for everyone, but this is a good time for me, and a few others who help run the session when I am not able to be here, thus it will stay this way for now..
How do I connect to the session?
The session is hosted through FSHost and is capable of 2002/2004 operations. To connect to the server
be sure that your ports are open! Not sure how to do this? Check out the sticky thread on the topic at the top of this forum, and if that doesn't help ask questions!
Once ports are open, click multiplayer in the Flight sim, insert the ip address that will be posted in the weekly briefings and click search. From there you should be able to click join and gain access to the session.
What do we use for vocal communication?
For this tour we have decided to use a free program called SKYPE which can be found at:
www.skype.com All you have to do is download the program, install it, and create a user account. From there the porgram works much like a telephone and for a nominal fee I believe you can call someone on their real telephone as well, but we don't need to pay for our portion of it. If you will be joining us for a particular session, please DO leave your SKYPE username either in the briefing threads or PM them to the person hosting the session (Typically ME, IE JARED). Yes we are aware of teamspeak and other software out there that works as well, but this is what we are using right now.
Do you have to use vocal communication?
Nope, you do NOT have to use vocal communication through SKYPE, but it is highly recommended as it adds a whole new dimension to the game and makes the evening that much more enjoyable. If you are worried about real world ATC type of communication, put those fears away. We are just a group of people out flying around, not trying to learn ATC skills..
We DO however request that those who are not connected to the audio portion of the flight to remain towards the back, or a distance away from the pack of aircraft. This excercises common sense, and good judgement...
Any questions?
OK, now this section is devoted to you guys, if you have questions that have not been answered please feel free to post them here, or PM me. I'm sure someone can provide a logical answer fairly quickly...
As always I enjoy flying with everyone who has joined us thus far and would like to encourage anyone who hasn't yet to join us for a flight or two to see what we are all about!
Hope to see you next week!
Jared
