EAW fans check this out:

http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=41;t=...

I've been hoping maybe something like this could happen with cfs2. I doubt Microsoft would ever make the code public, but maybe allow a small group access to it, to make a free update. Imagine CFS2 with shiny water, smoking tracers, and maybe multiple carrier takeoffs Grin

That great news. EAW is a great Simulator not better Than CFS2 but a great Simulator never the less.

Can you Imagine if Microsoft would do the same thing for us. Its already a great Simulator.

Unfortunually I don not think they will ever do it for the CFS2 program. CFS2 uses basiclly the same code as FS9. That would give other people the incentive to break that code as well.

Lets not forget that FS9 is Microsofts bread and butter when it comes flight Similators.

Thats what I have read from people that know more about this matters than I do.

Its nice to think about it dow.

in a perfect world that is what Microsoft would do... update CFS2... but, I HIGHLY doubt they will. I think it would be more ideal for MS to take FS9... make some WWII scenery for it... along with WWII A/C... and add guns...

I think what is ment by multiple carrier takeoffs is that your wingmen take off from the carrier with you instead of flying overhead. And Microsoft should make radar guages, so that radar works specifically how it did in real life instead of just one d:omn Tactical Display. Nachtjager related...

You need more ATC related things. It just isn't real enough without somethings. Such as a 'get out of plane and run' feature, because I hate having to end the mission when I emergency land instead of having the pilot run away from the plane like in CFS3. Except that it is a command, not an automatic thing, so you can do it if you have made a wheels down landing it isn't automatic. If it was you could just be parking the plane before ending the mission by pressing X and it would show your pilot running away from it like he's abandoning it. Some of those CFS3 features would be nice, as well as some Fs2002 features (ATC, transponders). I started a wishlist for a CFS4 just to gather ideas and I got like 3 people doing what I asked them to do at the topic and I got like 70 people posting about how there was going to be a CFS4 but it got ditched and other things off-topic. It's typical in Simviation but I like it here. Smiley I will try again at a wishlist and hope it works... Roll Eyes

Why don't they listen to us and make an even better CFS2? Microsoft has a great sim and don't we all think they should continue on it? Grin

Happy flying,

Bombardier

I agree with you Bombadier. Unfortunately they mess it up when they did not repeat the same formula with CFS3. While CFS3 is a nice sim that took time to get use to. It would have been a much more success full had they keeped the same basic structure as in CFS2.

I believe that what a World war 2 Simmer wants in the future is a basically a total comphrhensive open structure Combat Simulator that represent the whole war thruogh a world map.

What I understand is that CFS4 was going be base on the European Theater. It was basically a upgraded version of CFS3.

If that was the case. I"m not one bit upset the they cancell the project.

What I want and I hope you agree with me is a whole world war 2 combat simulator. Of course I will understand if it only included one base Theater when developed. It would nice if it has a open stucture that will give the possibily to expanded it to other Theaters as well.

All other little fixtures are nice but the biggest one for is the World map and a easy but comprehensive Mission Builder plus a flexible Dynamic campaign ganerator.

What I mean with a flexible DCG is one that a all you would need to do is pick a Theater you would like fly in for that day. Plug in the planes and the lenghth of the campaign and you would ready to start.

Well I guess that we will have to wait and see if they will ever listen to us.

In the mean time I"m very happy with CFS2 and with the many improvement done to it by the many developers dedicated to this program and CFS3 as well.

We can always hope and dream that MS one will give us their respective codes in the future.

Thank you

well not really, for it to be a true compact sim you would have to loose the autogen to keep the frames up and then you would have to rework it to allow campaings and so on.

well u can get them to take off but i think YOU have to be THEIR wingman

I like being my own ATC as for me the ATC in FS2002 and FS9 is just lacking plain common sense at the mo

Well as far as M$ are conserned CSF2 is dead, yes it is, from a business side they are no longer making money from it and so they have lost intrest in it

I disagree with you here as CFS3 does have the potential for being one heck of a combat sim, theres just a couple things wrong with it,

1, it was rushed
2, u need a good pc to run it

Please forgive my ignorance, but I don't understand how the source got reworked?  Did Microprose/Atari release the source into the public domain so somebody could modify it and recompile?  I went to the link and it wasn't entirely clear to me.

Agree here is the unhurried CFS3

http://www.medairwar.com

http://www.off.oldbrowndog.net

BTW the lack of a world map is not a show stopper as you can build any map you want that will exceed the combat range of most WWII aircraft.

About the only real life mission you can't fly on a continuous map would be Newark NJ to the UK, Wichita KS to the Marianas ferry missions or Marianas to Tokyo B-29 raids.  But most guys are not going to fly for 13-14 hours anyway.

...

The MAW map allows for Operation Tidal Wave from Benghazi to Ploesti.

MAW? Cool... After I finish all my other CFS2 stuff I might think about doing some desert campaign.

I don't think that's even possible. I would like to receive orders from a flight leader, but CFS2 doesn't have that capability.

If they think it's dead and they can't make money out of even an upgraded version of it then they have another thing coming!

How can you be your own ATC? I don't see anything wrong at all with the FS2002 ATC except you should be able to declare an emergency and AI traffic should be able to collide with eachother and call out something like "ARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!! WE'VE HIT THEM!!" on the radio. Shocked

It runs ok on mine as long as scenery detail is on 1 so I don't have the trees. But if you fire on a bomber it sometimes stutters, which is annoying as I've just got to the moment where I can down the thing and it stutters, I don't inflict much damage and get more hits in return!

This is not weather CFS2 is dead or not. Its about its basic structure Idea. Its the ability to keep any new combat Sim running for years by been able to fly and fight all over the world.

I believe that a Sim capable to expand all over the world will be alot more viable than one constrain to just one Theater of war.

Just Imagine if you would not have been able to expand CFS2 to other areas of the World and incorporate new planes in to it. This program would have dead a long time ago.

What has has keep it alive all this time is its all the improvements made by all the people devoted to it.

If they have been able to incorporate a World map to all the Civilian Flight Simulator they can also do it for future Combat Simulators.

This only a opinion

Its nice to have the ability and option like in the FS series to fly for 13 hour if you want to. There is wraping capability to avoid flying 13 hours if you do not want to do this.

Wouldn"n you think that CFS3 would have been a much better Sim if had a World map. Its still a nice Sim but I believe it would have even better.

I hope MAW comes out soon and we would bee able to down loaded in one of this great Sim websites.

this has only been a opinion

Not really, I would rate it as no more then a nice to have.  In all the years we worked with CFS2 I only flew from the Marianas to Tokyo (on autopilot  Grin ) a few times to test our B-29's fuel consumption.

I have no interest in long ferry flights so its just not a big deal for me.  In CFS3 we can build 1000+ mile maps anyplace in the world covering 99% of all combat missions so I really don't see much of a short coming.

If the trade off is a world map vs. fully functional crew stations the crew stations will win every time for me.

That being said EAW is the best WWII sim yet produced in terms of immersion & an updated version will be a knockout.

Of course I still believe Falcon 4 which also does not have world maps either, but full theater development capability, is the best home computer simulator ever built. As do the real life F-16 pilots in my on-line F4 group the 257th Talons.

MAW may make a late this year release. The distribution plan has not been finalized but the software is very big, IIRC bigger then the original CFS3 that it is derived from.

Bear I was not talking about CFS2 per say. A future Flight Simulator would include a crew station of course.

You would not have to trade off. I just like to fly every plane in World war 2 in their perspective Theater and not limited by distance.

Heck we all now CFS2 and CFS3 has its limitations. I just deal with them and enjoy the best they can offer to me.

Their both great Simulator on their own terms. To say other wise is to accept one is a fool.

Non are perfect. I totally agree with you that EAW is the best when it comes to immersion.

Not even FB/PF with Lowengrins DCG can math it. The only way CFS2 or CFS3 can some what match it is by creating your own Campiagns and missions.

Hey I"m very happy with what the community has offer to us.

I just would like to see a more expanded capable Combat Simulator in the future.

Not bee stuck with only of Theater war.

For us EAW fan. Have you been to this site:

Well if we are in daydream land I would take CFS3 with a clickable TrackIR capable 3D cockpit,  CFS4's terrain & other enhancements + CFS2's fuel tank selection, carriers & world map.

Add in EAW's 250+ plane , all in the air at the same time, formations & Woten controler along with Falcon 4's dynamic campaign engine, avionics/comms models, flight system management, mission recon, BDA, FAC & ATC.

If y'all have never seen Falcon 4 before the basic engine start trainer will give you some idea of the level of detail.  99% of the items you see in the cockit actually functions.

Falcon 4 cold engine startup proceedure. Run the utility & click on the green circles to advance.

http://www.avhistory.org/movies/rampstart.exe

In the game if you go with a ramp start it will take about 10-12 minutes.  The inertial guidance system takes about 7-8 minutes to figure out where it is on the face of the earth.  Shocked

LOL, yeah, they are being kind of cryptic. Don't quote me on this, but this is the story as I've been able to gather:

There's a small group who have been tirelessly modding EAW, including hacking the source code to a certain extent. Apparently they had made contact with members of the original dev team, who may have given them hints, ect. At some point, someone got in contact with Atari, and bless them, they authorised a small group to modify the code. I'm still not clear as to just what will can be done, but if they can fix the hardware issues with my Radeon, I'll be happy.

I know this sort of thing isn't likely with Microsoft - but then again, Atari isn't exactly some indie developer either. It just made me realise there is a way MS could update cfs2, without making the code public. Nice inexpensive way to strengthen ties to the sim community...

Bear that the most ojective post I have ever read from you. I"m proud of you. I totally agree with you. That would be the ultimate Sim of all time if done properly.

I"m not familiar with the Falcon-4 program but I will take your word for it.

Dcunning I think Zero is right about the suppose code being release for EAW.

Here is what I know at this moment about activities in this and other in the World Sim.

CFS2:Bombadier is about to realese his Night campaign about the Night air war over Europe.
2.Stitz is develping a World war 1 campaign as well.
3.Wolfi is in the process  of making ground objects for the European theater as well.
4.Xavier is making around 70 new airbases for Japan. Now thats kool.

CFS3:1.MAW is still in development. To bee realese in the future.http://www.medairwar.com
2.There is also a World war one in development to be realese in the Future.
http://www.off.oldbrowndog.net
3.A Korean project has been release in the Netwing by Mathias in the CFS3 campaign section.http://www.netwings.org/library/CFS3%5FKorea/. Check it out.

EAW code is to be realese to the community soon. Thats exciting.

FB/PF new patch is to bee uploaded in the next few weeks. It includes the Ju88 and some Japanese and Italian planes.

A new Sim will soon to be realese. Its call Wings of Victory. Its base on the Battle of Britain. Its little short in scope but it looks good on paper never the less.

I recommend you guys to buy it if you can afford it. That way it might induce other developers into realizing that their is money to be made with developing this type of games.
Please join us with whatever talent you may have and help us and your self in the development of this great hobby.

This has been only a opinion
