guys, hope you are interested:

Distributed through Flight One, Birds Eye View - http://www.flightsim-bevs.com/ - announces wonderful (or so I do believe) new replacement ground textures.

allow me to post two screenshots, here you can see new urban textures and correctly lined up autogen as well as some rural textures.

Our website with tons of screenshots and even videos is finished, release of the product is Oct 1st - we are still in beta and hence would very much appreciate your input!

don't be shy, check out the forum!

thanks,

Marc "Cole", BEV Forum Administrator

//EDIT: replaced 1280x1024 pic with 800x600

normal ground texture is ugly beyond belief - also the autogen is wrong --- I have added a second shot to my original post, but that's it, I don't want to fill this forum here with screenshots, so not to get banned, we have comparison shots and many others on our site.
Just check out the gallery there, there are no banners, pop-ups, ads or other crap. Just guys who love to sim-fly.

thanks!

Looks interresting !
But I think those textures are much to expensive !!
(Same with the fscene textures).
If I calulate right
6 continents (north and south america seperate)
it´s about 288$ for the whole world including all seasons.
I respect the hard work that was put into these addons
bur seriously not even a  the most advanced game nowadays where 150 people working for 3 years costs more
than 60$. And these are just texture sets. And believe me I know how hard/easy it is to make textures.
more than 200$ is just ridiculous.
50$ for the whole world incl. every season and
I´m your customer !!

well, first thing those are a lot cheaper than the competitors product. Second we announce discount right from the start. Third, those have been in production for three years now - creating those is an enormous task.
Fourth, few customers will get the whole world. I am a galaxy member of FSGenesis and can get the whole world mesh for free but I only fly in North-America and Europe, so two continents is all I need  Cheesy
I am only the forum administrator and I don't make money wining customers or selling the thing, I just tell you my humble opinion (those guys won me over after I looked at the first screenshot) - hey, it's still a lot cheaper than buying dozens custom sceneries which only cover a small area. Wink
Here you got near-photoreal textures for a whole continent.

But please, post all your opinions in the forum there, the powers-that-be are standing by!

thanks, Marc!

Andy, we don't have textures for Europe yet --- first thing to be released in a few weeks will be USA/Canada summer - check out the mountain pics in the gallery though - the Alps probably will look similar!
Anyway, throw any wishes or suggestion (smoother rocks, more fissures, less spots, darker, lighter, ...) into the forum, guys, we are still in beta so changes are possible - and, as I said, Europe is still a few months away!  Smiley

Cole,

I am specifically interested in Japan.  Are there plans to cover that?

I have the four seasons of FScene for Asia....and they are WAY better than the derfault textures.  But they STILL leave a lot to be desired.  One problem is that "Asia" is VERY diverse...... Japan looks little like a lot of China for example.

And if so,...... will you do autogen buildings that more typically match Japanese architecture.....particularly thje rural areas?  The default Microsoft buildings are laughable.

Looks promising.

..............john

John,

thanks for your interest!
Buildings matching the auto-gen is BEV's specialty, check out the screenshots of the urban areas!
Asia will definitely covered, it's not clear though which continent/season comes when in the queue, USA/Canada summer will be first.
I suggest you hop over to the BEV forum and state your wishes for Asia! Since for now only the US are (mostly) done, your wishes might be granted, we welcome and need your input!

thanks, Marc!
I can understand wanting people to know about things you've done, but the guy only has 8 posts.
This is completely OT, I know, but you shouldn't measure a man by the size of his p..ostscounter!
in fact there are those with 2500 posts of which 2470 are "yes", "I agree" or " Grin"
true I only came here because I wanted to "spread the news", but NOT to make money by this, ( I believe I mentioned I only MODERATE the forum there since I first saw those textures elsewhere and wanted to be part of the team),  but to tell you guys of - I believe - interesting stuff!

imho there's a thin line between spam and info.
I honestly believe people are interested in this. For me there's 4 must-have parts for max eye-candy on the FS-ground:

- mesh (for example FSGxxxxxx)
- landclass (same)
- roads/rivers/shoreline (for example Ulxxxxx Txxxxx)
- replacement ground textures (BEV or FSxxxx)
I also use NuRxxxx by FB.

hoping for your understanding,

Marc!

Marc,

I am one who enjoys updated ground textures and will look into your ground textures. I am always looking to upgrade what I have already had with something newer, fresher, better.

Recommendation to you, is to take some of your screenshots, make them under 100k and no larger than 800 x 600, upload them to Simviation (no links), then head to the payware screenshots forum area and create a thread there with up to 500k total of screen shots, with a little information about the product or a link to this thread.

There are a couple of payware developers that do the same to show payware addicts like myself their new wares.

And welcome to SimV as well!

I agree, Marc.  Welcome to SimV, and I hope you do well with your product.  As I already stated, I am in line to buy it when it get's out.  It was simply a matter of trying to keep spam off of the forum.  Hopefully, no offense was taken, and you find lots of interest for it here...

A couple of other things...

This is just a textures addon? Not mesh or terrain right?

I have FSScene but looking to maybe upgrade it with something more detailed

Yes, BEV is textures only and does not include any mesh.

Many of you know me here and are aware that I rarely promote any product.
When I first saw the  very early beta (alpha?) shots of some of the BEV textues, I was imediately impressed by them. I don't impress too easily!
So, I jumped at the chance to become a BETA tester.

I can assure everyone that the developer is sparing no effort to create a product that will be a major step forward  for FS-9 at a fair price. The much improved city textures and autogen alone are very impressive and should not be overlooked.

It is also planned that BEV will contain a texture configurator for some select textures. This will allow the user to choose  rock/cliff textures for example.

Also, keep in mind that it is still in BETA and textures are evolving and improving as we speak. Many of the screen shots simply do not do BEV justice as they contain beta textures.
It will only get better! Smiley

Microsoft has already said (to kevin, I think) that fs2006 will be backward copmpatible.  So if that is true....... this texture should work with the new one.

HOWEVER............... we don;t know what the default ground textures will look like in the new version.  SO it might be a moot point anyway.  Hard to say at this point.

But unless you have a honking FAST machine in ALL components...... my guess is that you won't be wanting to buy the new version...... unless Microsoft solves the "framerate problem" that fs2004 already exhibits without ADDED eyecandy.

So you might want the fs2004 textures anyway.  Wink

Well, I'm not that eager to upgrade anyway right now.  I have way too much time and money invested in setting up FS2004, so 2006 better be something spectacular.

Certain things tend to remain the same in FS though.  Mesh is pretty much mesh, no matter what the sim.  Planes are basically the same configuration (model, panel, texture, sound, .cfg, .air files) since the start, with the major change being switching to .bmp's for textures instead of the old .0AF files.  I don't see autogen changing all that much, except for eye-candy.

Which means I may wait until noon on the day FS2006 is realeased... Smiley

Ditto here.  I have been "tweaking this program since just about the day it came out... and have upgraded the machine twice....... finally including a whole new machine.  I've added a lot of payware mesh / scenery stuff.

It will take a LOT of incredible improvements to get me to run out in about a year and ditch all this time and money to upgrade.  I know that I was VERY unhappy when I ran out and changed from fs2002 to fs2004 shortly after it was released........ because it took me forever and a WAD of cash to get the thing anywhere NEAR the promises on the box.

I expect that the new version will provide the same experience...... and I really do not want to repeat that too soon.  It was painful.

best,

..................john
