I wonder if there is some payware package available that replaces landclasses/coastlines all over the world (or at least big parts).
Something like fsglobal for landclasses.

sam,

Hum..... haven't seen anything like that.

I have the FSGenesis payware USA landclass installed... it makes a GREAT improvement in the general locations of stuff..... towns seem to be where towns really area ... and cities... and farmland ......and so on.  When combined with their USA mesh (also installed) it looks much more realistic.

I also have FScene textures for Asia installed (along with FSGenesis mesh).  They are tezxtures, not "landclass" per se....... but they are AMAZING in the difference they make for Japan (where I have spent time).  Now it looks like Japan... not "USA East".

If the FScene textures weren't so darn expensive... I'd install them for the whole world.

I will also be interested to see if someone else knows about other options for the rest of the world.

best,

....................john

Thank You !
The FSGenesis US Landclass seems to be a good start.
Does it also cover Alaska ?`I don´t seem to find infos
regarding the coverage on their page. I think landclasses can enhance the visual appereance a lot. I wonder that you usually only find very small regions (freeware).
Probabely hard to build.

I recently deinstalled
ALL my freeware scenery/landclass addons (about 350
entries in my scenery.cfg)
and since that day my flightsim runs significant  smoother.
Before I had problems with memory overflows after 2h of simming sometimes my map crashed when zooming to a certain level.. and so on and so on !!
I now want to install larger payware addons instead.
(At least I can complain if something doesn´t work Wink)
Just got fsglobal 2005 and it´worth every cent !
So I´m currently searching for all kinds of large payware sceneries.. like landclasses (if they exist) for example. If there are other addons you can suggest like roads, rivers.. I´d be very thankful. (Anything that won´t really slow down my system but enhances the visual appearance)

Regarding FScene.. I bought the european summer textures. They look fantastic... but if you fly very high
20000ft+ you can see a strong tiling on the ground.
Due to I often fly heavies I prefer the standard textures.

sam,

No problem.

I fly commercial air transport almost exclusively too... and have not noticed the "tiling" in the Japan area.  I'll have to look closer now.

I think their hi rez Alaska terraain mesh package also includes landclass for there.  Not sure.

I have all their mesh pacakges for the entire USA and Canada, all of Asia, and scattered selected parts of the rest of the world where I have an interest.  It makes an amazing difference in the flying experience.

I did notice that they didn't include enough golf courses in Japan  Grin.

I also have the FSGenesis American Roads, Rails, and Streams scenery installed, and for me it seems to be fantastic.  Then I added FSGFenesis NURoaadPaver and that makes things even better (worldwide).

I got a 1 year subscription membership to FSGenesis...... and that makes it a bit more affordable to do this stuff Wink.

I too am a "scenery junkie" more than an aircraft junkie.  I am always looking to improve the external visual.  I think that is due to flying now in a simpit...... I have a "real virtual" aircraft all around me......... so add on planes do not excite me too much.

I generally don't like most of the VFR photographic stuff though.  I HATE  the "flat" bit when you are descending closer to the ground.  Megascenery stuff is fair in that regard... but still too "autogen deficient" for my tastes.

While not knowing the details of landclass etc.  Abacus recently released "World Extreme Landscapes"  which covers the whole world.  Obviously, some areas are more detailed than others, but I like the overall improvement.

Sam if you are looking for Alaska landclasses, there are two in conjunction that pair wonderfully together.

Misty Fjords and Ultimate Terrain Canada/Alaska. Both can be found in the List your payware addons thread for links.

It makes a big difference in the overall whole of what you experience in those two areas (Canada and Alaska and makes bush flying fun again)

Thanks for your suggestions !

@Felix/FFDS
World Extreme Landscapes seems to be just mesh.
I allready bought fsglobal 2005 an I´m quite happy with it ! Actually it´s quite expensive but I think it has some advantages.. like the "double render" technology and improved terrain beyond 60° north and south.

@SaVas
The Misty Fjords seem to be very interresting cause Alaska
is my prefered location when I´m not flying heavies.
But it´s quite expansive.. well due to I allready have a detailed mesh for that region maybe the much cheaper US Landclasses from fsgenesis is a better choice. I´m not such a big fan of detailed airport sceneries cause that was
the main reason for fs problems in the past.. at least for my part. But I see MF also contains textures.... well decisions..
by the way, after reading your addon list I´m shure
you made some people rich  Wink

@JBaymore
I think I´ll take a second look at my european summer textures.
The Roads, Rails, Waters enhancment is allready on my
"must buy" list.
I´m also not a big fan of photosceneries. So far I got
"Real Germany 3" Actually it looks nice but all the autogen things are gone, it takes nearly 5 minutes to load flightsim
and if I fly something faster than a SuperCup the textures gets blurry after a few miles. Is it just this addon or do all photosceneries behave like this '?

-
After buying fsglobal 2005 all my mesh issues
are solved. Now I will try to get as much landclasses,
roads, rails as possible.
I just found this site
http://www.fsaviation.com/terrashop/index.php?cPath=22&sort=2a&page=1
They offer landclasses and so on for several regions
Anyone allready got one of those ?
I´d be interested in the quality and also in the compatibility to bordering regions.

I have another question. (just one Smiley )
Active Sky or FS Skyworld ?
From reading several reviews it looks like both
addons do the same thing. So far I tend to
Active Sky cause you can let it replace the textures randomly. What ´s your opinion ?

sam,

Yeah... sometimes these commercial scenery "packages" are difficult to assess as to whether they install mesh, textures, landclass, new 3-d buildings, autogen...... or a combination of them.

I looked at the FScene textures closely (from altitude  Wink ) last night while flying from RJAA (Narita) to RJSA (Aomori)... and I could see the tiling you mentioned in certain "types" of the textures.  Wherever the particular "landclass" was.... the texture associated with it had a noticable "tile".  But most of the textures did not exhibit that.  But then again there was a slight hazy undercast near the grouind... so that might have obscured more "tiling" that I didn't notice.  I'll keep my eyes open for it.

I have Megascenery NY that I got "free" last year for extending my Computer Pilot subscription for three years.  It has been sitting there uninstalled.  I installed the downloadable free sample Megascenery package and installed it a while ago.  Again... the flattness really is disappointing.
