What are y'all SOPs for playing online and virus protection?  I mean, normally, you'd turn off your virus protection for games, but what about with online play?

Why would you ever turn off your protection?

Unless your installing something where a anti-virus could interfere, you should never ever turn off your anti-virus and anti-spyware.

I never turn off my virus protection...for any game.

The idea of turning off AV or firewall was simply to free up system resources so games run smoother. That idea is a bit outdated. I think with the higher end systems and a lot of RAM most gamers have today, keeping the AV running has little to no impact on performance. No need to disable anything.

Exactly. Confirmed with my own benchmarks via 3dmark05. Both the CPU and game tests came up with pretty much the same score with or without Nortan AV 2005 and ad-adaware SE on. Will post results if necessary.

Word of advice: Never turn off your AV unless you need to install something incompatible with your AV.
