It should be every Nightwish song in the list..

your right there andy, but i had to pick between those two, if i could go back and change it it would be "two for tragedy" as it goes with what i wrote in my profile on a different site, it kinda goes with it, and also "slipped away" by Avril Lavigne for obvious reasons as it mentions in the title.

What 5 songs would you say are the most beautiful songs you have come across.

I would say:

1. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
2. Pearl Jam - Jeremy
3. Yes - Everydays
4. Rush - Ghost Rider
5. Audioslave - I Am The Highway

Oh yeah and Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" comes in as the same too but I am only talking post classical popular music.

Pete

Are you serious about Jeremy?  I's always struck me as an exceedingly dark song.  How could it be anything else, when the song and video are about a boy who killed half his school class with a gun?
I know it's all about opinions, but I really don't see how anyone could define that as a beautiful song.  It's certaintly a great song, but not beautiful, IMO. Smiley

My list would be:

1. Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night?
2. Audioslave - Be Yourself
3. Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
4. Foo Fighters - Friend Of A Friend
5. Oasis - Wonderwall

I think as a tribute to those that died and as a statement against what caused him to commit such a terrible deed it is beutiful, mainly because it was such a heart felt delivery (and because of the way the music behind the lyrics were composed.)

I personally don't see why beautiful has to be happy ??? some of the most beautiful classical music is deeply dark.

Oh yeah and I have listened to Sock's choices and I like your style lol very bluesy 8)

Where did you find a recording of "Sweet Lady Mary"?  No one knows that song, let alone The Faces.  Which is a shame really, 'cause their a rockin' good band.  One of the best British rock acts right up there with Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones in my opinion.  Anyway, yeah, I didn't hear "Sweet Lady Mary" until I bought one of their albums, and it was a hard album to find on CD!  And a lucky find at the local hippies' record store.  Smiley  But if you like it, go to one of the major chain stores like Best Buy or FYE because they are the only places I've found that have any Faces, and believe me, its worth the $20, even with Rod Stewart fronting.  Wink

I've always been a big fan of the blues (thanks in part to the wonderful Blues Brothers introducing it to me.  Infact, I almost put down their live version of "Shotgun Blues".  Smiley).  But I've always been a bigger fan of heavily blues influenced rock n' roll; The Rolling Stones, Cream, Janis Joplin, The Faces, Ronnie Wood, etc, etc...  Of course its even better when a dash of soul is put in the music.  Like on Joplin's "I Got Dem ol' Kosmic Blues again Mama!" album and Ronnie Wood's "Now Look", the later being on of my all time favorate recordings.

Sorry to have hijacked the thread like this, but I'm very passionate about this type of music. Grin

Yeah I know, but I enjoy The Faces more.  Smiley  To me, the The Faces are more rock n' roll than The Small Faces.   They just have a vibe that the old band didn't.

Besides they only put out five real albums, plus two greatest hits.  Its easy to find "Oh La La", "A Nod is as Good as a Wink to a Blind Horse", or the greatest hits, but the other three are harder to come by on CD.

The Heart of the Matter - Don Henley
I Don't Want to Talk About It - Indigo Girls Remake
Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn
Angel - Sarah MchLachlan
Photographs and Memories - Jim Croce

just a few...  Smiley

These times are so uncertain
There's a yearning undefined
and people filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive in such a graceless age
The trust and self-assurance that can lead to happiness
They're the very things we kill, I guess
Pride and competition cannot fill these empty arms
And the work I put between us,
Doesn't keep me warm
