They were discussed a loooooooong time ago. The conclusion was anything payware in the payware forum. That way people who were poor and only had freeware stuff didn't get upset Wink

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh once again my name pops up.

Krigl,

Thanks I'm glad you liked the shots but:

1)  Since I used payware scenery textues from FSscene my shots were payware no matter the clouds.

2) FE is only one payware program I use  to generate clouds etc........ more importantly I use Active Sky which costs MONEY and generates weather scenarios which would be impossible for you or anyone else who doesn't pay for it, or another program like it, to get.

The question you seem to be asking is whether clouds are enough to make something freeware or payware and  I would say yes.

FS Sky World isn't a bad program but Chris Willis (the designer) knew they weren't good enough (lacked volume and edge) so he decided to develop and join a payware program to improve them.

The same goes for FE water, waves, night textures, sky and clouds.

You might not think they're better but IMHO they are far far superior. In fact immeasurably superior. In fact so superior that their use would be unfair when compared to those that don't have them.

It is obvious from Lemoncat's shots that he knows how to set-up his machine and control his elements and just because he does doesn't mean that everyone does.

I would never stop you from posting in the freeware forums because of clouds or sky and I think that the mods would agree. Nobody wants to take you away from what you love so much.

Please try to understand that when you say you are not interested in payware that it really does sound very stupid in a payware forum.

In fact to me (now don't get mad ) it sounds ridiculous and without any meaning or value.

So why don't you just uninstall FE, since you don't think they are better, and go back to a freeware program? That will solve everything including anybody having to read anymore stupid and boring remarks about payware.

Just one more thing I just noticed something in your follow-up post and I don't like the idea of what you said about payware being less creative at all!!!!

My shots are as creative as anything you've ever seen before or will see.

I think it would be better that you don't open yourself up to criticism too much otherwise you might find out how much you don't know and it might make you very unhappy.

The only reason that payware is not allowed in the contests is because it is unfair since people like you and others can't afford it.

and has nothing to do with creativity AT ALL EVER.

krigl - make sure you not only READ the post ozzy indicated, but you understand it.  It may not make any rhyme or reason with you, but that is THE RULE.

I really appreciate the creativity that goes into setting up the screenshots - payware, freeware, etc. and ultimately that's the fun part.

Having said that, if ANY part of the screenshot contains payware, or a payware effect, then it goes into payware screenshots.

If we find that someone posts a payware containing screenshot in the freeware section, a mod may be kind enough to move it.  However, the mod may also have had a bad day that day and simply delete it.

The issue has been discussed, hashed, and rehashed and the basic rule remains, any payware, and it goes into the payware forum.

Thanks for understanding.

Hey, do you know what, I've a feeling no one really wants to chew over this old topic - 30 clicks and no answers.  So far I've posted about 50 shots and no flaming posts accusations. I'm going to be posting a mix of old shots I like, with default/freeware/ FSSkyWorld textures, and new ones with FE. If they are particularly spectacular and psychedelic sky based shots I'll put them in payware. If they are not sky based and the sky/sea looks like anything freeware can do then I'll stay with my favourite freeware section. I think the FE makes no difference to the shots in most cases. If anyone has a problem with it they can send me a message and we can discuss....Sorry to waste your time if you've read this Embarrassed

krigl,

So let me get this straight so that we are clear on your comments.........

It appears that you are saying that:

  • you do not agree that the rules of this site are correct with respect to what goes in payware
  • that your judgement of payware sky and water should over-ride the site administrations policy
  • that you will be the judge of whether a shot's quality  should result in placing it in payware or freeware
  • that you are going to be flagrantly disregarding the Simviation posted rules
  • and that if the site administration has issues with this behavior... we can "chat you up"

Am I getting that stuff correct?

a concerned Mod,

Okay everyone I accept your comments and will do as asked. I wrote my "I'm just going to do what I like" post because I was frustrated at simply being referred to the rules when I think my points are valid and wanted to see if anyone actually cared what I did.

Ramsa and all insulted by my "less creative shot", I apologise greatly, I didn't think what I said through very well, it was late. I just wanted to express that using a payware plane makes it a bit easier (if only a bit) to take a good shot and in a competition that's unfair.

Regarding saying "I'm not interested in payware" sounding stupid, maybe to you it does, but it is simply justifying why I don't want to post my shots of freeware planes/scenery in a payware forum where people are primarily interested in payware planes and scenery, whereas I am not because I can't afford it and window shopping is not my bag. Like I said in my long post (you may have missed it) the reason why I was here was to check out whether there was a problem with FE... as I didn't realise scenery also meant clouds.

Regarding uninstalling FE - no, it cost a lot of money for me... and I like the variety it gives and the psychadelic sunsets.... I may install another version of FS9 on another part of my hard drive and use that for freeware and competition shots.

Sorry guys for causing trouble, the posts are long because I care about this, thats all. I know I'm just one of many and you've got better things to do than read this boring stuff so....

...thanks for taking the time to explain your position to me: I understand that you really do care about the payware freeware thing and I'm going to go away now and leave you in peace.

With regards

Krigl

Oh yeah guys, please feel free to delete this post, I don't mind - why waste others' time! Smiley

I've just deleted my posts from this thread, don't want to upset anyone else. ...
