Has anyone got a good profile for the Saitek X52 in FS2004?

The one available from Saitek does not seem very logical and it does not use the rotary or slide switches at all.

I thought I had read that you can use the rotarys and slider for things like rudder/elevator trim and the slider for prop speed and mixture control.

The advantage of the above would mean that you could check trim/speed/pitch/mixture state from the controller control position without looking for gauges or opening mini panels within the sim.

I tried programming a rotary switch with bands to control rudder trim. but the resulting profile crashed both the sim and the controller programming software ! ( I obviousely have not fully got the hang of this profiling yet).

An X45 expert may be able to help with the principles involved, even though I know that the profile layouts are different .

The one from Saitek is about the best I've found ........I suggest printing out the Profile sheet then using it as a quick reference.

As for rudder trim that is on the rotary with the E button in the middle on the throttle...... pitch trim is on buttons A+B on the joystick .... all in mode 1

Yes exactly, the trim is on the buttons on the rotary switches , but the variable rotary switches themselves do not appear to be used , neither is the slider switch. I suspect that the X52 variable controls are not compatable with FS9 if the Saitek one seems about the best?

The slider and rotarys are compatable with FS9 they just aren't used ....... theres nothing to stop you programing them to do what you want.

I suppose that's my  basic problem .

Trying to figure out how to programme the rotarys and slider to do what I want. I have tried without success to follow the Saitek manual and have had no joy from the Saitek help team.

I wondered if anyone in the Sim community had solved this issue

Have you tried the official Saitek forums on the Saitek site?

Yes did that , but they were not much help , other than to say " for FS9 programme them from within the game rather than use profiles". I had been trying to do that.

However , by experimenting I stumbled upon the solution to the problem. It may be of interst to others.

You can assign the rotarys and slider to a new Joystick axis ( eg elevator trim ) within Assignments ( as I had tried ) but they did not work. However if you assigned one of the main joystick movements ( eg fore and aft of joystick ie main Y axis ) to elevator trim for example it would work.

It seems that when you assign a new axis FS9 defaults the sensitivity to zero, so while the main joystick axis will operate the new  function the rotary switches and slider do not put out a strong enough signal to operate them.

The solution is to, once having created a new axis, go into "Sensitivities" and turn them up. Then they will work.
