It seems like you need to do simple video eidting. Windows movie maker will suffice. It come with every windows computer.

IF you need a semi-professional product, get adobe premere pro 1.5, but be prepared to pays it semi-pro price.

If you absolutely need professional/industrial standard, avid is the way to go. But be prepared to pay what hollywood pays for it.

For Cutting Size use something like Virtual Dub just split into clips you want and dont want and have the DivX codec or a fully useable DivX Compatible editor, it creates really good quality at small sizes wich shocks me! Cheers, Gunny

AMD athlon 3800 Venice Socket 939 64 bit at 2.4Ghz, 6100K8MA-RS Foxconn Motherboard, 1gb (2X512) OCZ Platinum PC3200 Ram, EVGA 8800GTS 640MB OC, 500 Watt NZXT psu, and Windows Vista Ultimate Total hard drive space 530gb

Depends on what your audience is, choose a compression format. Divx is good if you plan to give it to other people via the internet. mpeg 2 is dvd if you want to burn to a DVD. mpeg4 is support by newer dvd players, so its less compatible with legacy dvd players, but it does offer higher image quailty at the file size as mpeg2.
