I just saw a video on fs2004.com and it was about dangerous skys. The video was mostly about landing in dangerous weather. When he made the aproaches or before landing, The windtips of his aircraft produce some kind of swirls that you can find in real life. Can someone tell me, where to find this or what aircraft has it?

thanks

Vortices  Wink

They are a major drag source at high angles of attack where they produce the maximum disturbance.

Caused by the air pressure difference between the top and bottom surface of the wings.  The air rolls out from under the wingtips and swirls up, causing these little twisters.

They can last for several minutes behind large airliners and are a life threat to small aircraft. See "wake turbulence".

I have seen these eddies drift downwind and rip leaves from trees after a Hawker Sea Fury did a "high G" pullup in front of me at an airshow. Pretty cool   8)

In FS9, they would be a custom EFFECT using smoke. You can see it when you land a jetliner with a good thump on the runway as the tires smoke and it swirls up.

Ordinarily, wingtip vortices are invisible, but if the air is saturated, then I think the sudden pressure change causes the dew point to be reached locally within the disturbance, making it visible, and yes, I guess in a way, you are seeing water lol.

Vortices can be visible in drier air when the pressure differences are extreme as in a fighter jet - high G manuever. Some condensation effects you see on jets are caused by disturbances other than vortices though.

A good example of the latter in FS9 is the LOCKHEED MARTIN F-16 Fighting Falcon (VIPER) by Kirk Olsson, which has a pretty good high G effect.

I can't think of one offhand like you describe though.

When I fly a UPS or FedEx MD-11 in FS2004, this happens at the end of the flaps edge ends and at the wingtip too!

Just like this:

Just downloaded and saw the dangerous skies video and I see what you're talking about, the realistic wavey ones on the wingtip of a 747 in 48 to 51 seconds section of the video.

Tonite I will fly the UPS MD-11 and compare it, the UPS MD-11 doesn't appear wavey like that contrail in the dangerous skies video.

Best way to find out is to download that aircraft and see if it comes with that effect file.

The website where the video was made is at:
http://www.arkitekt.moonfruit.com/

I already emailed them asking where did they download the aircraft or the vortex contrail effect file.

Hopefully they will have an answer.

I found it!  It's in the Project Open Sky 747-400 Malaysia Airlines "Hibiscus" 9M-MPD.

It can be downloaded here:

http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=66603

The add on fix for above:
http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=67034

Download that and use the I button for smoke effect which will show the vortex effect.

Hmm, about that video, FS2004 gives me an 'error' when I try to open that one.  Could someone post the file or email it to me by any chance?

The iFDG airbuses have vortex effects, so you could put the effect references into your aircraft.cfg for the plane you want.
