I would like to ask if this system is possible? I asked before but it wasnt really discussed. However on the Broncos forum this system has improved the quality of postings and is working surprisingly well.
Basically what happens is, you are given 5 optional points to give out to members per day, you give these points out to members who write a post that a person considers to be helpful insightful or funny or whatever, just something positive. It is optional as to whether you leave your name and a comment. It works best in my opinion if you dont so people dont feel like they owe one back. The points then build up into various ratings, like the stars do for number of posts. In this case they have levels set for Bars at every 100cp's a person collects.  The other thing, the amount of points given out is determind by how long you have been at the site, so if your new you can give out 5 points, and each is worth 1 point, if you have been there over a year, each CP is worth 2 points. The final things that keep it fair, are you cant give the same person points more than once every 5 handouts, and you cant give yourself points.
Just an idea if possible. Thats the whole point of this forum if i remember rightly:)

Do you have a link to the forum Craig? Is it PHP? I don't know if there is a addon for YaBB like that.

Theres a link to the only post about it i could find. But if you look around the site you can also see a little about how it works. not sure which system they run through. Coding and companies isnt my area of expertise. Sorry.

Seems like a full time job to me ... & certainly not how Yabb works ..  & very discressionary hwich would cause problems  ..

You would have to read every post by every member & we get over 1000 per day.

Craig??

LOL.Smiley
in the end whether it stays anon is upto the person giving them out, there is a little message box when you click the button for adding to a persons points. Just so we are all on the same page, this is for everyone, so its not like the resposibility falls on one persons shoulders. Likewise of the 1000+ posts you get on the site, in one day how many really stand out as helpful. i'll admit i dont visit all the forums, so it might be considered unfair, but you might give out a point to a screenshot post that you found interesting. Or a joke that hadn't been poste before. Each person can see the last 5 points they have been given and for what post, if the person has chosen to leave a comment or name they can see that too.
In the end as it seems you cant implement it to this site anyway, i'll let it drop. I just thought it would be an idea which is the reason you created this section:)

Nice idea, but I could see it abused and not work very well. People like the mods would get them all the time and ordinary less knowledgable members would never get anything much.  The end result would be members made to feel small and unappreciated as well as upset. Bribing and backscratching would probably also be a problem.
However, I don't know how it works as this is the first time I have heard of it. Just instance thoughts.

Another idea could be the administrators or moderators giving out titles to members if they feel they have worked hard or deserve some recognition in the community. Hagar's title is very deserving and I think reflects in a more simpler way the style of thoughts what you would like Craig. Perhaps this too would not work - but I do like your preposition in principle. Smiley

Ben, those problems can be addressed easily by the admins, setting the points of the mods, to the top possible amount as they did on the Broncos forum. As for less knowlidgeable members not getting as many. The idea is you post something of quality, maybe a good screenshot, or photo. You dont need 10,000 posts to do that. Or perhaps you offer some advice in the FS forums despite it being your first post, you might find 6 members giving you points for it, thus it gives them incentives to continue posting, to let them know their time here is appreciated. If people see fit to try and abuse it, then they would still have to give out 4 more points before giving them to a buddy again. you can only give out 5 a day so they cant increase a buddies rep that quickly anyway. This could be moniterd by the mods if it did become obvious a problem was occuring. In the end its all talk as it cant be done with this forum.

From a mod's point of view, monitoring the "points" would be additional (unwanted and unneeded) work.

Hagar's "Member Emeritus" status is unique, not to be repeated.  More than any mod, he has been a guiding force and example as to what is expected of a Simviation member.

Anyway, all this talk of member points/rating is moot, since yaBB doesn't support it.
