I was just looking at Heretic's thread with the pic of the cloud and decided to add my own. Rifleman mentioned we get lots of clouds like that on the West coast... Well, I'm in Ellensburg Washington and this plase is a freakin' windtunnel anytime there is a major temp difference between eastern and western washington. On this day the winds were the usual 30 kts, which caused this formation of i guess lenticular clouds. Or mountain wave clouds.
Anyway, we get these all the time... DON'T GO FLYING YOUR CESSNA 150 IN THERE!! lol
These were taken acutally only a few minutes apart.

No glider pilots that I know of over there. This side of the mountains isn't quite as active with aviation as the west side. lol
Those clouds were pretty high though, I'm guessing tops around 10,000 feet.
And yes, the sky is such a fun place! I only wish I had my camera with me when I was on some of my IFR flights! Nothing quite like flying right between two overcast layers of stratus clouds! All you can see is a thin line of blue on the horizon. Actually, it's kinda trippy because although both layers were parallel, both were pretty sloped. lol Quite odd. And then the occasional column of cumulous. Kind of like a huge studio appartment.
