Oh, by the way you can create an EasyJet Virtual Airlines you'll just have to name it....EasyJet Virtual Airlines  or EasyJet Virtual, whatever you want I guess, but you get the point. I'm not exactly sure if you can us the company logo on your website but I am pretty sure you can distribute EasyJet repaint for your fleet without breaking any law. So, go for it I guess

I think the colours are copyrighted to them, so is the aircraft colour scheme..
And the name is a trademark and copyrighted...

So no, you cant make a airline called Easyjet Virtual...

The test of visual copyright and trademark violation involves the idea whetehr the "average person" looking casually at the offending item and the real item could reasonably confuse the one ofr the other.

So if the "look" is similar................. you can't do it.

About 4 - 5 years ago there was an Easyjet Virtual, I was one of their pilots and Easyjet pulled the plug on it. So it's not a case of them not letting someone start one, it's more severe, they've actually taken action against an existing one. Shame really, I used to love those Sunday morning rides from Luton down to Palma De Mallorca !!!!!

I'm sure there's no JetEasy out there  Grin Grin

I work for the real airlines, and the reason is simple. Look at some virtual airline's websites, some are better than the airline's, others look like they were thrown together in 10 minutes, if I am planning a vacation, and I search EasyJet, planning to book online, and I come to EasyJet Virtual though, say google, if that website looks horrible, that projects an image, despite the wo organizations are not affiliates.

bserres,

Thanks for the persepctive from the company.  Was that "official" company info.... or just "off the cuff"?

I REALLY don't think that the "Joe Average" consumer is NOT going to fly on the real EasyJet because some kids' website looks bad.  Wink  Give the customer SOME for intelligence.

Conversely...... if the virtual EasyJet website someone might find on a web search is better looking that the real airlines website is....... someone in the marketing department should have their job performance reviewed!   Roll Eyes

The solution to this is simple and is a win / win situation........

Allow the EasyJet virtual airline(s) to exist, but place a specific restriction on them.  The virtual EasyJet website  HAS to have a "This virtual game airline is NOT affiliated with EasyJet." disclaimer on it in a specific size and type and color of font on the entryway page... or on ALL pages .......or whatever.

That way the company controls the use of it's name and logos.... and the very LARGE and avid flight simulation community can keep EasyJet in the air... and in their minds... and maybe even fly on the real one occasionally.  My guess is that a lot of simmers fly regularly on commercial flights in the real world.

If the company is concerned about potential "economic impacts"........ I can tell you that, as a flight sim enthusiast, based on this situation I will NEVER fly with EasyJet until this situation is changed.  if others in the community follow suiit in an "active boycot"of this type of practice......  I thnk THERE is some sort of economic impact to be concerned about.

That is just my $0.02 speaking as a private individual not a "moderator"... and is not representing the views of the management of SimV in any way.

best,

..................john

SO you can't call it EasyJet?? Who cares... take a page from Holliwood and make a parody name, like PeasyJet, Easy-PeasyJet, stuff like that. then slightly change the livery and there you go, a EasyJet VA which is close enough for the simmers but far enough to keep you away from the intellectual property junk

Dear Mr Turner,

I am writing on behalf of easyGroup IP LicensingL td.  easyGroup IP Licensing Ltd owns the intellectual property rights of all the easyGroup companies including easyJet.

I have been forwarded your email dated 13 July 2005 that you sent to easyJet regarding a request to set up an easyJet Virtual Airline.  We do not approve your use of the easyJet name and therefore do not authorise you to set up an easyJet virtual airline.

i enjoy long walks on the beach, yummie thai food, and obliterating my enemy's aircraft around them with a hail of bullets from 12 .50s. and/or a 75mm cannon.
