This is driving me nuts!
I want to know if there are any plans by Ford to sell any form of the '05 Mustang in Britain in right-hand drive form? Ideally I would take either the Mustang GT 4.6 V8 or even better the new proposed '05 Shelby 500 but if they are planning to sell any form of the Mustang I will be happy.
Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks.
Pete.

Not likely. And the price on one would be close to £30,000 which for a car that in most cases is worse than the BMW 3 series but more expensive is surprising. Your best bet would be to look for a left hand drive one if you want an 05 model. not really tougher to drive than a right hand drive. biggest thing is insurance. However might i suggest a 97/98 mustang, can pick one up for anything from £3000 to £6000 for a decent one and they look better, and fit on our roads:)

Nah I really don't like the 90's model Mustangs I think the '05 model is a return to form on the looks department. It is far more powerful than the 3 series and in the size department it isn't much wider than a Mondeo.
I can pick up an Auto 4.6 V8 GT left hand drive, ABS, CD changer and leather seats for around £25000. Being the age I am I probably will have to wait about 7 years till the insurance companies will even look at me with that car though.
Lol shame really, I am getting car envy because I got the use of a BMW 530 for a week last month and now I am itching to get a decent car instead of my lowly 1.1 litre Peugot 106
Ce la vie (don't think I spelled that right.)
Pete
P.S. BMW 3 series are all over the place these days I want something different.

Lol I hear ya but most of my driving is motorway driving and I really do love this new model. I hear good things of the GT model and reasonable corner performance (not great mind you) but I would love to cruise in it.

dont let my comments on the mustag put ya off. I personally love the car, although i like the 90's model more, has a sporty look to it. If i were to go with the original style i would by the original mustang. Its just personal preferances. best bet is to look through the auto trader website and get an idea of prices near you.
I sent you a PM about your insurance aswell.

Have there been any reports on the reliability of the new mustangs?

I haven't heard much either way. They haven't been out long enough to discover what kind of problems they may have as they get older and more worn out. Thusfar there has been no major problems brought up and they sure are a nice looking car (and thats hard for a Camaro guy to say). But, nothing has been released that say they are unreliable.

This is something I am seriously considering buying now.
I can get some good prices over here and I'm afraid I'll have to get used to left-hand drive.

you'll get used to the right hand no problem. i ran an e30 bmw m3 for 2 years, which were only made in lhd, and after a short while it was ok. overtaking can be a bit dodgy, but apart from that it was fine

Ok, as a Mustang enthusiest, I feel compelled to say something.
No chance of you buying a GT500 (especially in the UK)
little chance of you buying a right seat '05.
Mustangs are reliable from 1996-present
I love my 1998, but if you don't like the looks, go for a 2000-2004 model(if you like those)
Why do people not like the 1994-1998 models? I love them! The only beef I have with them, is they don't quite look like a race car, unless you try to make an RS.
may I recommend a Ford Ka, or a Toyota Prius if you are thinking about a new car. Trust me, in 3 years, you will know why.

I like them. I't not a HUGE Mustang fan but I think they look really nice, much better than the previous years. I like the 2000-04 a little better, but both are very nice.

Yes the 2000-2004 models are more agressive looking, and they look more like real road racers. Thats why the Cobra R was developed.
Oh, I fergot to mention something about buying a Mustang. Good luke parking it in the tight streets in the UK

the standard mustang is no problem on our streets really. my uncles rover 75 is bigger and they are a very common car round here. Our streets arnt as small and tight as people think. And anything you saw round London is not a common thing round the country. Villages can be a problem some times but Jeremy clarkson managed to get the Hummer H1 through some tight streets once so again not a huge problem.

My personal fav, theres a place about 10 miles from here thats an american car specialist has a lot full of camaros both 96 style and 2000 style onwards. Mustangs old and new style Dodge rams firebirds allsorts. Again though both cost (a 96 mustang here is about ($8000+) and insurance (i was quoted best $6000) a year. makes owning one before turning 25 almost impossible. And with gas being $7 a gallon almost they arnt great commuting cars.

Well I allways was a fan of the old mustangs, especially the old Shelby GT-500kr (the only reason I managed to sit through Gone In 60 seconds.) The new mustang looks much more similar to them.
I'm going for a motorbike now anyway.

i like the 00-04 a lot better than the 94-98, but that is because i have a crush on 03-04 cobras, especially one black 04 hard top

yup when, if i get one (have my hands full with 4 vehicals right now (resto (modern), track car, daily wagon, and motorcycle)) i wouldn't work on the motor (which was beautiful when i test drove it). I would spend a lot of money on tires and suspension

It would be quite possible for me to get a GT-500, I know a bloke close by that is importing Mustang GT's at the moment and plans to bring in some GT-500s when they come.
