All,
I'm looking at getting a new HD and know about the 137 GB limit that I would be forced to use unless I use the ATA interface card. I don't want to use it so if I was to buy a HD bigger than 137 GB would I be able to partition it to less the 137 GB without problems?
Thank you

Yes, you can partition it as long as each partition is less than 137 gig.
BTW, you can bypass the 137 gig limit with certain software.
Why don't you want to use the ATA card btw? There's nothing wrong with using one.

Wouldn't there be a slowdown in HD accessing with it?

SATA is actually faster than IDE.
I'm trying to copy my IDE drive to my new SATA for just that reason, but so far I've had little success.

SATA is much faster and has higher bandwidth than IDE.
BTW, ATA does not necessaily mean SATA, it could mean PATA, the old kind (IDE).

Well if you use Windows XP you won't be force to use the 137gb limit. Last time I installed windows xp home I installed service pack 2 right after and then I went to control panel, administrative tools and then computer management. Where it says disk management you will see the rest of the hd partition that windows did not use during the initial installation.
If you use windows xp with sp1 or 2 together then you won't have to worry about the 137gb limit, they take care of that.
Have you ever considered making a slipstream bootable windows xp cd with the latest service pack?
It will save you a lot work.
Good luck
Best Regards,&&Selby&&
