There's a difference between Nazis and the german armed forces. The former fought for their ideology (a fair share of SS members), the latter fought for their country - as did the Tommies, Americans and Ivans.

This all is getting waaaay out of hand, but, aight....

-NO OFFENCE TO ANY GERMANS-

They didn't need to defend their country, because it wasn't like the allies were gonna kill all Germans or anything like that (I even think they would have killed less Germans in case they didn't fight back Grin

)

The only objective of the Allies was to put an end to the
Nazi regime and to stop the cruelties

So, in my eyes, fighting for Germany was defending Hitler and his ways.

Surely they needed and wanted to defend their country. Do you like the thought of being occupied by a foreign country?

They didn't know about the atrocities committed in the KZs until after the war.
The reasons the alliied joined the war:
- The german attack on Poland (France, Britain)
- "Operation Barbarossa" (Russia)
- German declaration of war (USA)
So simply because they defended themselves or other countries.

You can't say that directly. Some did it for Hitler, some for their country, some for themselves.

I can see where Bjorn is coming from, many of the soldiers of the day did not agree with Hitler, but fought for their country, not Nazi ideals. I saw this one programme on Discovery about a failed attempt to assasinate hitler.... It was one of his top commanders, so it just goes to show. Wink
