Hi.

My own website has "hover buttons" on it (I use MS FRontpage for website deign... not the "express" version).

Suddenly now, when I log onto my own website the hover navigation buttons on the pages (all of them) do not show the color changing button images (they show the Xed image box) and they do not work for navigation at all.

But OTHERS who go to my website report that THEY see the normal nav buttons and they function correctly.

So SOMETHING in the setup of my IE on MY MACHINE apparently has somehow been changed so that the hover buttons do not "work" on my machine.  This is driving me nuts... I can't find the IE setup control that affects website controls that include what are called in Frontpage "hover buttons".

Any suggestions please?   ???

best,

................john

Next time you are on your site JB, try hitting REFRESH.

Clean out your temp internet files and cookies.

While browser is open, check in Tools/Internet options, that the option to "check for updated pages every visit" (something to that affect) is selected.

Seems I experienced the same thing when I had my site up and performing the above cleared it up.

Good luck bud.    Grin

And frontpage.

There are many good freeware editors out there.

Dreamweaver is good if you can afford it.

526th Fireman,

Thanks for the good suggestions.  Unfortunately it didn't help.  ???  Nice try though.  I was hopeful.  Smiley

As to the "dump" suggestions...... not very helpful guys.  I have been very happy with IE and Frontpage for a long, long time for what I do.  Frontpage has done my commercial website for years just fine, thank you.  I am not looking for fancy "bells and whistles".... doesn't fit the nature of the product.  Dreamweaver is total overkill for my needs.

Frontpage still IS just fine ... the hover buttons not appearing problem is on MY end here.  Others see them just fine.

I'm pretty sure this is a setup issue in my IE settings.  I just have to trrack down what I have inadvertantly changed.

Anyone have any constructive ideas about this

best,

.................john

JB, you recently do any updates from MS? Double check javascript enabled in your browser.

Also, try lowering your security settings just a tad for a test on your page. If it works with lower security settings, then go through those with a fine tooth comb.

For some reason I am thinking javascript. I no genious here......maybe just another stab in the dark. But I am pretty sure I had the same problem long ago and cleared it up doing the "try this......NOPE........try that" approach. When I did find it.....it seemed so simple.

BUT, alas I have slept since then!   Wink

Check the javashift and activeX controls in IE. It may have something to do with that.

BTW, are the other users using IE as well or another browser?

I have checked Javascript and activeX and they are enabled.  I have palyed with seruity settings and such.

My Windows is on autoupdate and install...... so I am sure that there have been countless updates from Microsoft  Wink.

Still no joy.

What are "hoverbuttons" as far as "controls"?  Are they javascript, activeX or what?

Usually javascript. You might try updating Java. When I got broadband and finally installed SP2 and all the updates, I was browsing with Firefox and it notified me that I now needed to update my Java from Sun Microsystems.

Worth a shot eh?

Something sure changed on your end John, don't you think?

I agree, try downloading the Java runtime from sun. That may help as I believe MS does not support its own virtual machine anymore (due to Sun's lawsuit), so a windows update may have disabled MS's virtual machine.

BTW, if you give us a link to your website, we can check to see if it works on our computers.

It is at http://www.JohnBaymore.com

On the main index page yuou click on the image there... and that brings you to a series of two "entryway" screens with hoverbuttons (forward and back) on them.  Those bring you to the main "menu selection" page for the site that is composed of a large number of hover buttons.

I have been told by people that I had go there that it IS working for them.  And they use various browsers.  Interested to see if you have problems or not though.  If you see the two hoverbuttons instead of boxes with X'es insterad of the button images on the second page...... it is working.

I'll try gfetting the latest Java stuff and see if that helps.

It works fine for me. On mouseover, I see a dark red gradient.

My specs:
OS: Win XP sp2
Browser: Firefox 1.0.4
Java Runtime: Yes, not sure what versian, the newest

BTW, those buttons are Java applets. I think you may need to either enable Java or install it.

Just tried it with IE6 and it works too. I think you need to update your Java runtime.

Well... I installed the newest Java runtimes... and still issues.

Now when I go to my website the hover buttons sort of work... but not correctly.  When the page loads...sometimes the button is now not an Xed out space... but a plain white box.  When I roll the mouse over it... it changes to the color that it is supposed to be when the mouse is over it.  BUT... when the mouse is rolled OFF of it... it stays that color it was when the mouse was over it.  Sometimes it takes a lot of time for it to change color.

Totally bizzare performance.

best,

....john

Very interesting. Have you tried refreshing?

I'd consider perhaps uninstalling the java runtime and then reinstall.
