Simple questions: What type of fuel does a Cessna use? And also what is the average price per gallon?

To be more specific, it's generally of the 100LL or 100 grade fuel (blue or green, 100LL STRONGLY prefered).

The key difference between what light piston singles like Cessnas drink and the stuff used for cars is that it still contains lead... although it's being worked on, a suitable unleaded avgas is not yet available.

A guy at my local airport put jet A in his car thinking that it would make his car go faster because of the higher octane (idiot) and it destroyed his engine. It burned up all of the seals and valves.

You can put Jet A in a deisel though I heard. Im still sure it kills the engine over a short period of time though.

Jet A is about the same thing as kerosene... they literally are just about interchangeable..
Some older piston planes are "tuned" to run on automobile gasoline (mogas) and will readily burn 100LL too. The other way around is a bad idea. I'm not sure of the specifics, but it's gotta do with compression, timing and plug-life (not to mention the life of anyone on the plane).
When it's all said and done.. cost of the plane, insurance, maintanence, engine rebuilds (and your safety).. seems funny to worry about a dollar or so a gallon.
