I went up as a passenger in the decathlon that my flying club uses and we did some loops and rolls etc. To put it bluntly, IT ROCKED! Kind of ironic that I loved it, is the fact that I wont touch a roller coaster.
Anyone else here had aerobatic experience?

Did my first aerobatics with me at the controls aged 15 in an RAF Chipmunk trainer. I still feel happiest upside-down

One hour of dual in a very nice new Zlin 242... barrel and aileron rolls, loops... no spins or hammerheads as the horizon was a little too hazy that day, but... woohoo!! That Zlin is not the world's most powerful or fast aerobatic bird, but I couldn't have cared less!!
The only thing better than getting upside-down in a plane is getting upside-down in a plane... with
your
hand on the stick!!!

I tell you, I expected for the pilot to smoothly pull into the loop...nope! YANK! 4 g's for the most part. I'm quite pleased at how I handled the g's actually. Not to bad for someone that used to have a chronic fear of heights.

Lol
Fun isn't it. Like Ozzy, by first experience of aerobatics was in the good old Chippie. The most interesting was a loop in the Jaguar - not much change from 12'000ft bottom to top!

It's addicting isn't it! I had my first taste of aerobatics when I was 11 in a Pitts and haven't stopped since, although I have down graded from a Pitts to a Yak 52 and Nanchang CJ-6. The only thing cooler is doing it with another plane three feet off your wing.

Three was interesting enough for me, thank you very much!
Those of you who've yanked and banked in jets: g-suit or no g-suit? I'm curious about how gnarly 5+ gee would be without one (but not eager to experience it!).

Around 5 - 5 1/2 is the most I've pulled without a G suit. Its not entirely comfortable, but as long as you're straining against it (imagine being constipated an pushing!), you should be able to keep the blood somewhere in the vicinity of your brain! For prolonged periods without a G suit, 4G is more comfortable and seems a fairly standard G for simple aerobatics
With a G-suit, a little over 6G. The suit does take a little effort out of continually straining as it really does squeeze your abdomen and your legs, which does help as long as you a straining. The G-suit for the Typhoon is apparently very good, and makes even 9G relatively comfortable!

Relatively. Can't say I'd enjoy it myself!...
Completely off topic, we manage +3.75G and -1.25G in straight and level flight last week!

We pulled 5G on my advanced aerobatic lesson on the Extra 300 in my avatar. I have a certificate to prove it & the instructor seemed very impressed. He told me this was the maximum allowed on a first lesson & I didn't argue. I didn't think this was bad for an old codger & I just noticed my vision being affected. Must admit I forgot to strain against it as we had been shown before taking off so I'm sure I could have taken more without too much trouble. I can't remember how much G was involved but I found the pressure of the G-suit on my thighs & lower body when pulling out of an almost vertical sonic dive at 20,000 feet extremely painful. It was almost as much as I could stand, even as a young fit lad of 16, & I was glad when it stopped. We then climbed back up to 43,000 & did it again. I'm a glutton for punishment.
I prefer aerobatics involving positive G although I like aileron rolls. I'm none too happy hanging upside-down for any length of time with only the straps holding me in.
My highly experienced instructor (ex Red Arrow & now chief flying instructor at RAF Barkston Heath) said he agreed with me.

There speaks a man who leaps out of perfectly airworthy aeroplanes for fun. I rest my case.

5 Gs without a suit for me too. As Charlie said, so long as you're really straining, you shouldn't black out too bad. However, if you do it a lot, you can get a monster headache.
My fighter pilot instructor also advised me not to pull negative Gs, seems like a lot of guys don't like 'em too much. Can't imagine why, you can just eat again when you get back on the ground.

First aerobatics for me was in a SNCAN Stampe sv4c, with a friend of mine,
we went out to burscough in the uk and i had my first taste of aerobatics:
loops
inverted loops
barrel rolls
i call it a flick barrel roll, (whee u pull up and then rotate 360 degrees)
stall turns
Wing overs
bareing in mind the aircrafts g limits was +6.5g and - 5.00g. he pulled a 4 g loop and a -2 g inverted loop, when i finally had controlls handed to me i pulled a loop right on the aircrafts limits and then the same with an inverted loop,
btw this was with out a g suit.

If you call bursting blood vessels inside your head (eyes, brain, nose) serious damage, I suspect the answer would be "yes"

Here's the beauty I'm going to be learning aerobatics in this summer...
http://www.bruceair.com/images/Extra300_2004/Extra300_003.jpg
Oh yeah, that's gonna flippin' ROCK!
Three full lessons including different spins, rolls, loops, cuban 8's and a few tumbles.
As for roller coasters... bring 'em on man! I've been on every ride on top of the Stratosphere (except the new one... but I'm going there this August, so I'll go on that too). Nevertheless the ones on the stratosphere totally freaked me out as I'm horribly scared of heights... the only real reason I went on them was to say I did it, and I was on the highest amusement ride in the world.
The day is always better when you're flying upside down.&&&&

Find someone that has Pitts S2A or Extra.
And discover what "Acro" is all about!
Nuthin' like a snap-roll on the downside of hammerhead!
I busted out of the bottom half of "Cuban 8",Just as you are rolling up-right. Which bumped the G-Meter to 4 positive. More than enough for me. I dont' know what was worse,The G's or the butt chewin' from my instructor!
