Hi all,

I've put together an engine exhaust system  for turbofan and turbojet passenger planes and I'm trying to gauge interest in it to see whether it's worth uploading it here. The package provides as realistic a heat shimmer from engines as I can put together at the moment. The turbojet effects have an added 'smoky' component that the turbofan effects don't. The effects are auto-controlled from the panel.cfg:

- with the engines off, there is no shimmer
- at idle there is a small amount of shimmer (controlled by the lighting effects)
-  at takeoff there is an increased heat effect (controlled by the smokesystem).

Difficult to take a screenshot of as a demonstration, as it's a dynamic effect! You need to see it in action.

I've done this for my own pleasure (and sim realism) so let me know if there's any interest and I'll upload it.

Wink

I'd definitely be interested in some heat shimmer effects - definite added realism  Grin.

Go for it!

There might be many users that don't need it right now (or don't think they do)...but it might be just the thing once they give it a bit of thought. Smiley

OK - fair enough. I'll upload it this weekend.

The manual will have the aircraft.cfg location settings for all of the popular airliners out there. If you want to apply it to other planes, feel free but you'll need to locate the effects yourself. I'll include how I did it in the manual.

we are currently planning a new 1.3 release for the 737 Experience...

it will feature the new heat shimmer effect, a new better 2d panel, and some more liveries, of course...

there is no release date planned yet...

Cool!  8) Many thanks for the info!
And what about the vertical stabilizer texture-bug (blur effect)? Can you solve it?  Tongue

I hope, you can include a nice 2D overhead panel too!  Wink

the blur effect on the rudder is a texture issue...

it has to do with MIP maps (for some reason the lowest MIP detail is displayed when it shouldn't)... anyways, i had that taken care of in the default experience liveries by removing all MIP maps form that texture

hovever, third party repaints sometimes still have MIP maps on the rudder so the problem contunues Roll Eyes

i've found that when you're on spot view, if you zoom in a lot then back out, the rudder textures display properly... go figure Tongue

to get it fixed for good, if you have DXTBMP you can use it to open the rudder texture file and remove the MIPs, check the "do not include MIPs" option

you'lll need to do this to all liveries that present that problem though...

ok, back to topic now... Grin
