Maverick,

The best configuration for fs2004 is a Cray  Wink.

Lacking that ..... there is no easy answer.  It is very machine specific.  Like the rest of us... you'll just have to play around to find the optimim blend of settings nd "tweaks" that work.

best,

Your machine is complete overkill!

4GB RAM?  P4EE ? Get Real man!

You'll get FAR better results round an AMD 64 based System with NForce 4, Dual 6800 Ultras on SLI* or, an ATI 850XT PE , at a max, 2GB RAM & some 10,000rpm SCSI drives in a RAID setup. Nice & fast for an awful lot less money!

* FS9 won't support SLI properly, but, most other games do! - FS9 will still look great & run superbly.

My point being a p4 ee is NO faster than a standard p4 of similar speed when it comes to playing games.

4GB RAM? - roughly £500 for the good stuff! 2GB would ,frankly , be a waste of money imo! - I notice little improvement with FS9 &  1GB RAM (over 512 ) apart from slightly improved loading times......

My point being, the excessive cost of 4BG RAM & a p4ee would be better spent elsewhere in the system .

Speak to Alienware, as you seem to be set on making them a tidy profit!, change the spec to something that you'll actually see the benefit of !

Its your money & your choice, as you obviously did'nt bother to heed the advice we gave here

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=hardw;action=display;num=1...

I'm somewhat surprised your still coming back with more questions!

You've been advised ,correctly imo, not just by me, I doubt the advice from the others has changed.

Apologies if my reply seems a bit impolite, I've had a really bad day so anybody who crosses my path gets it!!!

I'm not having a go at you, I just don't want to watch you make a mistake in a large purchase! Wink

I dont think there is a "perfect config" that will work for everyone....I dont have the "HOTTEST/NEWEST" system or components, but I am happy with it, so that is all that matters...... Grin

Well fists off if you want a hardcore gaming rig ditch Intel and get an AMD64, I don't care what the intel guys tell ya benchmarks and user experience speak for themselves. 6800 Ultra is a good choice, its about 450$ now for AGP so its a great buy. I think you are misunderstanding the whole 4 gig of memory thing, what you are refering to is RAM wich deletes upon power loss, if it didint computer boot up would take abot 1 second. You will never use 4 gigs in ANY game EVER, waste of money plus it will cause data lag, a gig to a gig and a half is all you want really for games. Hard drive I suggest 1 74 Western Digi Raptor SATA  drive. This is currently the top dog in performance sata wise, RAIDing them wont improve much, just more space.
Back to the processors I did post a summary on why AMD does perform better in games, if you are interested I will try to find it. If you have the bucks I suggest you got AMD64 FX-55, lower budget the best performing chips are AMD64 with either a Venice or San Diego core, but you dont get that option over at alienware so an AMD65 FX-55 of 3500-4000 will be an excelent chip. So to summarze (in terms with what you want....kinda) here is what I would get : 6800U, 1 Gig PC-3200 ram, AMD64 3500-4000 or FX-55, 1 or 2 WD Raptor hard disks. That will take you at the speed of light Tongue
