What do you guys think of these? Two Royal Air Force Merlins parked up on the apron at RAF Benson ready to go. Incidentally I had a flight in a Grob Tutor a couple of days before from there. The joys of being in the Air Training Corps lol!

It's a great organisation. Wish I'd had a camera when I was a cadet. I took some shots of the Merlin at Duxford if anyone would like to see them. Forgot all about them.

Nice pics Mark. It occured to me last week that its 10 years and 1 month since I joined the Spacies (Air Cadets...). Was it your first flight in the Tutor? Hope you enjoyed it...

Nope. You can join the ATC as soon as you are 13 - I'm assuming that you can't partake in all activities until you are 13 and 3 months, as it was in my day...

Anyway, if anyone's interested (adults included - they are desperate for adult staff/volunteers), heres the link...

Charlie it was my 4th flight i think. I have also been up in Vigilant gliders 5 times, and I should be able to get my Gliding Scholarship next year. What sqn did/do you attend and what rank are you/were you?

Air Training Corps Cadet since 2003. Sergeant since Sept 2006, Staff Cadet since July '06.

I was in Kent and was a (Cadet) Flt Sgt. Moved on a bit since those days now. Grin

Tutor's a great little aeroplane though

My bad...
someone told me i could only go flying etc when i was 14, so i joined then.... i dont think our unit takes anyone under 14 though lol.... Cheesy

. I was 14 when I first went flying in the Space Cadets, in a Chippie of course. Nothing beats looking at the back of your pilots head! Grin

RDAF are gonna to use that heli instead of the S-61 (S-61 has been on active duty in 40 years now!)

The merlin is one of the few truely new helicoptor designs currently avaliable.Its definatly the best in its class.
