Hello!

Too bad I didn't see this before.

I can't model skin or code; but I can write campaigns.

Gimme the planes and scenery; I'll give ya a pretty half-decent campaign to fly them in. Either as part of the package or separate; cool either way. Wink

I've put one on SimV (the rest are a little on the weird side; using the more..interestingplanes I've collected over time. I.e. 'F-18's over Guadalcanal' etc. Grin) - if you want to check out my style of campaigning; check out "Take Back the Pacific". Smiley

One word of warning from a mission point of view:
Detailed aircraft are great; but too many in the air can turn air combat into a seriously laggy mess. It's best if a new craft's poly count is similar to that of the stock planes. Smiley

Cheers!

Hmmm - you like them that detailed, eh?
I guess that put me out.   I'm a minimalist by nature. hehe

Could always get around this by creating Player flyable and AI aircraft Wink

Hi again. Smiley

Sorry; don't mean to annoy anyone with my thoughts; it's just that I've tried making missions with good numbers of aircraft in the past (12-16 a side at times).
Very fun, exciting missions and they work with stock (or simpler) aircraft. Many addon craft are utterly lovely and brilliant to fly; but adding any more than 2 or 3 of them into a mission can cause serious lag problems, IME.
(I tried doing and Eastern Front campaign a couple of years back. I found a totally lovely Se-5 and Geman Albatros on SimV. Flying alone; fps of 24. Turn my head to look at my wingmates - whoa! 6 fps! Grin )

Stratobat's suggestion is ideal, I think; if the devs want to go to the extra work.

BTW: Totally forgot to say; that's an absolutely lovely Camel - can't wait to try it out. Smiley

Cheers!

The AI plane is a good idea for just 1 or 2 planes. However if you have 2 folders for each of the 19 planes in this this campaign then that is not only going to up the size of the download but fill up your aircraft folder with more planes. So i dont think its advisable to do it for all the planes, just the bigger ones like the HP 0/400 and the Zepplin bombers.

Staiduk its going to be a while before the planes are done, i'm still building the camel to get it to look right..maybe its just me that thinks it doesn't look right  Tongue. I've still got to do the LOD and damage modeling yet, so a way to go still. However if you want to draw up some type of campaign using the planes (send us a PM with your e-mail and i'll send you the list i made) then go ahead because we cant stop you   Wink

Hi Guys,

I've been thinking about this, and I think the best way to go about the Campaign/ Expansion would be to create a seperate install of CFS2 specifically for the Campaign. That way you could include AI aircraft without over-population the Aircraft folder. For the AI aircraft you could even leave out things like Polygon Smoothing, that should lower the sizes a little. For the AI aircraft, you could even get away with not putting any detail in the open cockpits, save for the pilot. You could even leave some of the parts untextured.

Stratobat

In a campaign, you could have 1 or 2 "premium" a/c,
usually for the player, and have the rest of the a/c as less
detailed-framerate friendly ones. This could work as a
compromise between the 2 approaches so far.

If all could agree on what airbase/scenery set to use,
mission builders (such as myself) could begin making
missions now. Or at least roughing them out. Later, when
the specially built a/c are available, it would be an easy job to replace the old a/c en masse with
a text editor.

There's some nice-looking airbase sets available out there
for ww1 now. Or is the plan to build all new ones?

I think the plan is to built an entirely new set from the ground up, but you'll have to get into contact with Stiz with regards to that, but before you can even design any scenery or airbases you need to do the research and build the campaign on paper. Otherwise you might end up doing a lot of work for nothing!

What we really need (IMO) is a really good Western Front trenchline scenery. There is one available but frankly it looks fairly cartoonish to my eyes - close to the ground it's fairly cool but from altitude it just looks like a thick brown line.

Rabbit - wanna compare notes on mission/campaign ideas? It'd be great to get multiple heads banging together on this one. Smiley

Yeah Staiduk, I'm up for it. Drop me a line.

If we begin with the idea of creating missions from
historically accurate airbase locations, we could get
started quickly. Certainly, we can plan out the campaign
flow in any event.
