w4p, first, just starting up Windows XP takes 120 to 140 MBs of RAM.........and that's straight out of the box.

175 MBs seems a little high to me, but then I don't know what all you have added and may be running at start up.

I strongly suggest you get FSAutoStart. You can use this program for any game you have, not just FS9. Once each is set up, and doesn't take long really, it is then just a matter of a couple clicks and FSAutoStart does the rest, even starts them back up when you are done.

It would be very easy to compare your list against those listed in this program and set it up that way. Bet you find some that you didn't see before too.

The beauty of this program is that you CANNOT harm your system. A reboot will fix any problems or reconfiguring it will do the same thing.

I promise you, once you learn it (and it isn't that hard with my picture tute up above) you will be glad you got it.

Up to you, but you should at least try it out and see for yourself. No permanent changes are made to your system and this program is totally safe. I, yes me, didn't and haven't messed anything up with my system and I use it for all my games and have been using it for quite some time.

Good luck and enjoy.

Fireman: This looks like a really great program, am amazed no one has thought of doing this before. Manually doing it is a chore... Thanks a bunch!!!  Grin

I have a question, a problem with Windows for several versions now.  Sad When I run a game, or run an audio editor, or listen to music, I usually turn my speaker sound volume up higher.  And occasionally, as programs in the back ground do things that have a sound associated with them, I hear it way to loud through the speakers, interrupting the game sound or other music, etc.,  I'm listening to. Is there a way to set up a macro that will turn off custom sounds and restore them after running a game, or is it some process that can be disabled in the FSAutostart?

Thanks,

I've been using this for a day and just wanted to say this is quite amazing.  Grin
I can now set my Nvidia 6600GT card to full antialiasing and anisotropic filtering and get no fps hits or stuttering in any game I play. When I load and play a game with FSAutostart it is using about 600-700MB less memory load as shown in the data file it writes.  Shocked
I've had no problems that I am aware of.

That's great news rabu.  Like I said, some people it helps tremendously, others slightly and still others little at all. Just depends on each system and how the user has their machine configured. One thing is for sure, it doesn't hurt anything and the knowlege that you are getting the most bang for your buck from your machine by using this program is worth tons in my opinion.

On your sound issue, I don't know of a way to shut down specific sounds from various apps. without killing the sound to everything.

You could set up FSAutoStart to kill those apps. you are talking about when you fire up your game(s). But then I don't know that your work won't be saved going this route.

I would suggest that you turn that stuff off when playing a game. In other words, get your work done then go play.  Wink

And let's be clear. Ken Salter made this little beauty, not me. I just provided some info on it. I am not that smart anyway, sure wished I was. I think I was ten b4 I learned what the laces were for on my shoes. Couldn't figure out why I kept trippin on the strings, so I took them out. But then my shoes kept falling off.

What a mess I am, or WAS! Grin    Now, thanks to school and life, I am smarter than a jellyfish!   8)
Enjoy
