Sorry tht happened but a smart move would be to never install anything if you don't know what it is!  Wink

This should not have happened - If you can provide specific info I can fix it.

Generally the ads here will be harmless. If there is one that contains a form of spyware or sound it is removed - but our ads are from reputable agencies. Occasionally a 5th party agency subbed by the main agencies can have poor ads but certainly anything like you have mentioned should  NEVER happen & is not in any way acceptable.

If you can provide any specific info I will look into this.

I know from past conversations with Pete that the Ad companies he uses are screened for this stuff and it is unacceptable if something like this happens. He has removed a banner in the past as there were some complaints.

If you could remember or watch for it again, it would help as then Pete can look into int.

Before a complete reformat you might want to check out "Hyjack This". It can remove most spyware programs. It's power is in the fact that I shows everything. You also have to be careful since it shows everything, it's possible to remove stuff you really need for Windows to work.

Try this place before you start reformatting: http://castlecops.com/

You should find a link to Hyjack This on that site.

While I am sure pete goes to great lengths to make sure this kind of thing never happens, nothing and no site is immune.

One thing though regarding clicking the X. Never click the X expecially those that are ads for installation of programs. I only close such ads in two ways:  Ctrl Alt Del and close it that way, or right click and close. reason being is some will still install even after clicking the X to close it. Spyware makers are tricky individuals/companies. Always take the most precautions you can.

also a new way round pop-up blockers, when you click anywhere on the page it will open a popup as though you clicked a link. I havent seen it here, but its something to be wary of.
